Twisted Metal 2 (PlayStation, 1996)

This game is almost ten years old but still packs a major punch! This game is WAY better than all other TM games, including Twisted Metal: Black. This game perfectly displays what a car combat game should be. By todays standards the graphics are of course, not great. But the gameplay and controls are a ten. The fun factor is a 96, and when codes and secret moves are discovered, the fun factor goes up to a million. The environments you get to play in are really cool and pretty expansive for this era. The weapons are awesome and you can destroy alot of things!

Truly I spent over a hundred hours playing this game, and it is just as much fun with a friend! EVEN more fun actually! The other cars in this game a fairly intelligent and lethal. The cutscenes are very cool, think comic book meets movie. The ending movies are often hilarious and twisted (pun intended).

You can't have anymore fun than this game if you tried!

Twisted Metal 2 is brilliant.

It is HARD... While playing it for the first time you will be pummeled by the AI. This is probably THE element that makes this game better than fantastic. The computer controlled opponents will pretend to be objective. They'll leave you alone and fight each other, but they are really just setting you up, waiting for you to screw up so they can throw a beat down so ridiculus, so outrageous that you'll be laughing at your twisted, burning, bounced on, exploded remains.

Take a corner wrong or try to reverse for that health you missed 'cause you're a sucky driver? !BANGY! Mr. Slam is right there T-Boning you, tossing you end over end into a corner. Then Twister comes in and starts spinning you both in his tornado of doom. You hit your shield (up-up-right) and try to get out but they've got you cornered and Twister is a cheater (he'll twist forever...). Next thing you know Slam slams you in his jaws again, you're spinning all over the place, you hear Shadow moaning in bomb after bomb, Grasshopper comes flying in with her annoying "YEEHAW!". You hit your shield again, drop two remote bombs on top of each other, stand on your turbos and head for the hills. You look in your rear view and wonder how you made it out alive. You notice you have a sliver of health when you hear your worst enemy. The whistle of Stupid Spectre's Cheater Missle... You're out of power for your shield so you take some tight turns and squint your eyes - almost to the health - ALMOST THERE! !BANG! It catches you. The ear piercing screech of your death is followed by the rumble of Thumper as he rounds the corner and torches your flaming wreck with his 30 foot flamethrower. Then, to top it all off, Grimm comes out of nowhere, hits your corpse with 3 skulls and spins around in circles to laugh at you...

That is just on medium difficulty...

This game is hard. Perhaps thats why it is so sweet when you master it. The touchy controls that plagued you as a newb will eventually become your best friend (I recommend switching to Run 'n Gun) as you control your vehicle of choice like it is part of you. Before you know it you'll be busting out reverse freezes, ruthless combos, 200 mph mid-air 180s without slowing down, perfectly placed napalms, ricochets off the 50th story and laughing deviously as you narrowly avoid that "oh so innocent" 8 car pile up that just "happens" to converge on you. It will always be waiting for you. Letting you know that if you have one too many and your driving ain't as tight as it should be...!BANGY! Slam's out there, just waitin for ya.

Co-op tournament is great fun with a buddy. Got a few friends around that can learn the moves? Challenge matches! There are 14 playable vehicles, each with their own unique style and special weapon and relativley balanced against the others. Hmmmm, tell me again why I was a freshman in college for 4 years...?

Just be careful... !BANGY! Slam is out there waitin' for ya!

Blowing stuff up is fun! Many fun levels and characters to choose from. Codes are fun to use. I have a back-up game in case this one breaks!

With cars and guns how can you go wrong??? This game is the perfect way to relieve road rage!!! Who hasn't wanted to send a Patriot Missle up the tail pipe of the guy in front of you???!!!
There isn't anything I don't like about this game!!! It has an interesting story and really cool and creepy characters!!! As an equipment operator, I love the idea of crashing through town in a rubber tire loader trashing every car in my way!!! TM2 has a great variety of terrains to battle through, each with it's own challenges!!!
I loved all the games in the TM series, but this is my favorite!!! It has a cartoonish look and feel to it that makes it just flat out fun to play!!! In my estimation this is one of the greatest games in video game history, a history I know well, I remember Pong!!!
I've played every character in this game many many times!!! I've been through it more times than I can count and I'm still not bored!!! This game is well worth owning!!!

Look past the choppy 3D graphics and you have the greatest car-combat game ever made. Much, MUCH better than its predecessors AND successors (including TM: Black on the PS2), you simply cannot compare the physics engine of Twisted Metal 2 to any of the other car combat games. Vigilante 8 for PS ONE tried to replicate TM2's formula, but that game was still limited by the realism of car physical.

Die-hard PS ONE gamers and those who had Twisted Metal 2 will agree, this was one of the best Playstation ONE games of all time. Non-stop replay value.

and I did not even say anything about the contents of the game. YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT.

I got this game originally when it came out...1996 or so. I loved it from the beggining; it has great vehicle control, great graphics (for the day and even now), great scene interaction and great game-play variety. I know, I know, everything isn't perfect, like the fact that you cannot simply save progress and there's no thrill of unlocking anything and the music could've been better, but still, all things considered...one great game. If you've never played TM, I suggest you do so.

the product, Twisted Metal 2 was Sent and Received quickly, had a few scratches and it works well :)

This is my absolute favorite Twisted Metal game. Not only was it the first game I ever played on the Playstation back in '96, it was my favorite game for some time. The levels are very cool. From the roof tops of New York, to Paris, all the way to Antarctica! You go around the world and duke it out with the other Twisted Metal contestants in hopes of winning the ultimate prize. What's also cool is to try and find the secrets the game has. Try shooting some napalm at the Mona Lisa, or shooting at the statue of liberty. It's quite funny to see what happens in the last one mentioned! There are many more than those two as well! Have fun finding them!


This game is a great improvement over the first Twisted Metal game. The levels aren't as blah and are much more interesting. You've got lava in the Amazon, glaciers breaking up in Antarctica, etc. The multi player in this game is also extremely fun if you have someone to play with.

Bottom line, this game is a lot of fun. If you want to see what the Twisted Metal games are all about, buy this one. If you're only going to buy one of them, you must buy this one. It is the best of the four made for the PS1 and it's even better than the TM game for the PS2! Lots of fun to be had with this game! Lots and lots of fun! A 5 out of 5 from me! Highly recommended as one of my favorite games... ever!

The best game ever created. Extremely Fun!! I have been in love with this game ever since it came out and for some reason I can never forget about it. I recommend this game for many kids instead of regular human shooter games.

Great Game!! Definitely the best of the Twisted Metals! Maybe I'm old fashioned but I like the fact that it's cartoonish. It's fun, easy to play, and is not filled with blood and guts and swear words.

This game set the standard for everything that came after. I had it years ago but it was lost. I searched high and low for it, then I found ebay and found it. I would have gladly paid double the price but I found an excellent deal.

I've played a lot of games, and this is one of the best!! TM 3 and 4 were not very good and confusing, like rogue trip. I'm still looking for my playstation copy for nostalgia sake. The scenes are fantastic, and knocking someone off of the ice, and also off the side of the big building are 2 of the best things in this game !! Always entertaining, MUST HAVE !!

Twisted Metal 2 is a car-combat game released in 1996 for Playstation. While the graphics are below today's standards, the game play is still as good as the day it came out. The game offers 12 default characters with 3 bonus players; each with their own special attack. Twisted Metal 2 battles through 8 levels not including the 3 unlockable levels. Each character battles through opponents to win Twisted Metal, in hopes of having their wish fulfilled by Calypso, the organizer of the event.

I purchased the game after a copy of mine became nonfunctional. I had to play the game that provided hours upon hours of entertainment over 10 years ago. For the car combat enthusiast this is a Must Have!

Best Twisted Metal Game, Great Speed and Control. Graphics are great for era. Much better to get deadly at then other twisted metal games. Play it daily.

I haven't played Twisted Metal 2 in about 5 years and never thought about buying it over E-Bay. My friend told me to, and after purchasing this game I forgot how much fun it is. Normally, I don't play video games but this one has me hooked. It's a blast!

Twisted Metal is a big franchise. They made 5 PS1 games with the name, and one for the PS2, as well as a new one for the PSP. But of all these games, only one is the true leader-- Twisted Metal 2.

The physics, controls, cars/weapons and storyline are all perfect notes. The only sequels that even came close to the magic of TM 2 were Twisted Metal: Black (which had great control but not-so-great tone) and worthy successor Twisted Metal: Head On (for the PSP, it's controls are EXACTLY the same as TM2).

This should be a staple in every PS2 or PS3 fan's collection. If you like car vs. car, this is the original gangster and progenitor of dozens of lesser games (Vigilante 8, Rogue Trip, TM3, TM4, TM: Small Brawl), and makes the point about how superior graphics are unimportant if gameplay is less than desirable.

I never received the game. Contacted seller & ebay several times & still never got the game or my money back. Will never buy from seller again & will not deal with ebay again. This makes 3 times I have got took.

I first got hooked on this game in 1997. It's basically a "world-tour" demolition derby with weapons and advanced tactics, and a bunch of different vehicles to choose from. Both one-player and two-player versions are exceedingly fun, with deathmatch and challenge match options available.

Even though by today's standards the graphics fall a little short (it was made for the PS-1), the game is still certain to entertain for hours on end. Due to its quick learning curve, myriad options, and fast pace, it places easily into my all-time Top 5 of console games. Even though it is a PS-1 game, I am still playing it on my PS-2 machine to this day, even when there are more current games to choose from in my library. This is most definitely a must-have for any collection.

If you've ever read any of my other reviews, I've talked about the Playstation's 2nd wave of games being among the greatest ever released for any of the 3 systems. Twisted Metal 2 sits next to FFVII, MGS4, and Panzer Dragoon Saga as one of the greatest games ever released, for any system. It took the first game, and improved beyond measure. Better cars, crazy cutscenes (the finest of the TM franchise), and a world tour of descruction make this a requirement. The game keeps the threat of vehicular homicide real, with losing its tongue in cheek zaniness, a rare feat, and one the series has failed to recreate. TM2 is the best game in the series, and starting with 3 they took a terrible decline. I'll admit TM: Black (a darker and bloodier game) and TM: Dead On (for PSP and PS2) are welcomed returns to the series' trademark thrills, but fail to shine compared to TM2. If Sony were to release a 720/1080 version with analog support, it'd would probaly sell a million copies. The fact the game has seen a Greatest Hit, and PSN rerelease, and still fetches between 15-25 on eBay, prove its still a fan favorite. If you're in the mood for something unique, pick this one up.

The Playstation had a lot of games but none like this one where you drive but not to race but destroy everyone with guns, missiles, specials and a few other weapons. Although Twisted Metal 4 is better than the second one this is still a pretty good game. Graphics aren't so good but the game is a lot fun.

This game is so much fun! It's a classic. We never get bored with it. Fun cheats, hard to beat. Freakin awesome game!
