Twilight (DVD, 1998, Widescreen)

The reason that I bought Twillight was for the cast. Paul Newman,Susan Sarandon,Gene Hackman,and Reese Witherspoon. Paul Newman plays a private detective who does some work for a rich couple played by Gene Hackman and Susan Sarandon. Reese Witherspoon plays the daughter. The film starts out with private detective on a mission to bring the daughter back home. He follows daughter and her boyfriend back to the hotel room. While there,we get to see an excellent topless scene with Reese Witherspoon. The private detective takes her back home. Then the husband sends him to pay off a couple of blackmailers.
Obviously,the job wasn't going to be that simple. He finds a cop shot and no sight of the person that he supposed to give the money to. James Garner is excellent in a small role as a guy who does the dirty work for the character played by Gene Hackman. Twillight was a well done private eye movie with a first rate cast and good direction by Robert Benton. I recommend this movie to fans of the private eye genre.

I grew up reading Nancy Drew,the Hardy Boys, and was weaned to some of my grandmother's books: ie. Micky Spillane's Mike Hammer series. I got hooked on those though-guy private eye mysteries, and love Twilight because it is remeniscient of the detective stories that I still love. Paul Newman is plausible as Harry Ross, an ex-cop PI, who gets involved with murder, past and present. Newman is terrific in this role, as he was when he played detective Lew Harper in two earlier films, Harper, and The Drowning Pool.
The film reminds me of the earlier detective films of the 40's which starred such talent as Humphry Bogart, Dick Powell, Edmund O'Brien; for that reason alone Twilight is a film I have watched again and again.

In this movie, Twilight, Harry Ross is a Investigator living at his friends mansion in Santa Monica. Delivering a package for one of his buddies, he finds one of his co-workers shot. He goes into the apartment to check things out and finds many many years of newspaper clippings relating to a disapperance of his friends husband. A very interesting Murder Mystery. A great cast of characters!

Love Paul Newman and rest of cast was terrific; Susan Sarandon keeps you guessing;Gene Hackman was underplayed; James Garner is always a favorie and a surprise in this movie; early role for Reece Witherspoon a little shocking; Stockard Channing gets her man! You'll love this murder mystery.

slowest, dumbest movie of all time. nearly slipped into a coma.watched it with my sister and we both hated it. couldn't even watch it to the end.

It is hard to beat any movie when it has James Garner in it. Pretty good mystery. Paul Newman was good also.
