This book is an excellent primary source. Instead of just cataloging events, Suetonius talks of the character, the benevolence (or lack there of) and the Cursus Honorum of the 12 Caesars who had really stood out up to that point. This list includes Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, Claudius, Nero, Tiberius and others. These where all fascinating men, and this book is a must read for any history buff.

Good title-especially considering the period written in
Review created: 08/10/09

I liked the book very much. You probably have to have a sincere interest in the subject to stay intrigued. I was very fascinated to read a book about the time period written by someone who lived in the time period. Though it's a translation of Latin no doubt, the stories are very rich in detail, much that translation does not change. I loved to learn particulars about each of the twelve and the people close to them. It gives facts about their appearance, personal habits, as well as the things the common people knew or thought of them at the time. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject. The reader will get much understanding of that time. I would rate the book between good and excellent.
