Album Notes In over 100 films roles throughout the 1940s and early '50s, singing cowboy Gene Autry typified the image of the brave, honest, justice-loving rider of the range. This short but fascinating set collects many of his most famous songs. Mostly originally done for inclusion in his movies, Autry's recordings of songs like "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" and "The Yellow Rose of Texas" conjure a bygone, simpler world, where cowboys lived by the code of the West and regularly triumphed over the forces of evil. "Don't Fence Me In" is a hymn to the cowboy's rootless existence, while "I've Got Spurs That Jingle Jangle Jingle" celebrates Autry's character's many narrow escapes from the bonds of matrimony.
