Try and Make Me! by Bill O'Hanlon, Ray Levy Ph.D., Tyler Norris Goode (2002, Paperback, Reprint)

There is really nothing that i DON'T like about this book. As a parent of 3 adopted children with ADHD and ODD i think i have read every book ever written on behavior. Not only did this one work and not only does it tell you what to do it tells you exactly HOW to do it, step by step. I am buying another because i loan them out and they love the book so much i haven't the heart to take it back. This book is a keeper. Some rating i have read think it can be somewhat abusive because of the hold down method. I only had to do this twice to get results and i have tried everythng else for years. You have to make a commitment and really get tough but it is so well worth it. My son saw how much i put into it and even though he hated every minute of it i think he realized how much i love him.

As a school counselor, this book was recommended to me by a staff member several years ago. She said that her teenage child's private counselor had highly recommended it.

I bought a copy and read it. My own children are already grown but I really liked this approach to handling power struggles with your children. Many I already knew to work. Having it all written down in an easy to read book was just what I wanted.

I have 5 copies that I check out to parents and it is just plain hard to get then to send it back. Recently a desperate staff member came to me and checked it out. She read it through in a weekend and immediately went out and bought it! She sings it's praises to others.

The style may not suit you, but on the other hand - it might just be the answer to your prayers!
