Difinitive, groundbreaking release
To blend different types of music and still perform each as if that were your genre of expertise is a rare feat, much less a listenable one. Fishbone sets the bar and leads the jumpin', stompin' and dancin' fest like few others. I like all different kinds of music, but when I first heard the album (on cassette!) in 1999, I found it hard to categorize but no less addictive. Lyrics, bass, horns, rythym, guitar, it is all there and although I don't have the album right in front of me at the moment, naming one song or another is immaterial because they are all winners. If you like punk, rock, ska, roots, rock-steady, blues(kinda?), reggae, or straight-up west coast groove-party jammin' to the max, there is no listener not enriched from having heard Fishbone! FIVE STARS!
