Captain Beefheart Trout Mask Replica

This was recorded in 1970 and it shows, in a good way, I think. This is not for the weak of heart(so to speak). Beefheart reminds me of Howlin Wolf on LSD! The lyrics are eclectic, obtuse and so full of symbolism and metaphors and such that one has a difficult time following, which is part of the fun...What the hell is this guy saying???(or trying to say!). The rhythms are where this work excels. Structured Chaos! Very intricate time signatures layered on top of each other to create a freeform sound. Too Cool!!!! This is probably not a work I'd play at a "party" unless the guests were all Zappa Freaks(Zappa Produced this work) and like minded souls. No dance tracks!! I loved this when I first heard it some thirty years ago and I still do. This deserves a place in any collection that celebrates the diversity of Music and Musicians. You can hear Beefhearts voice on Zappa tunes such as "The Muffin Man" and "She's 200 Years old" among others but I must say that Zappa tended to pull in Beefhearts reins a bit. Enjoy, but don't blame me, I tried to warn you!!!!!! The Lizard
