Treasure Planet (DVD, 2003)

Don't be fooled by the preview. Although he might look like just another angsty teenaged hero defying the odds and winning an unlikely victory, Jim isn't an annoying Aladdin. Sure, some of his motivations aren't the best, but he learns as he goes and he truly wants to do what's right even as he leaps into the unknown and follows his dream.

The music is good, the characters interesting if a bit underdeveloped, and the scenery gorgeous. Interstellar galleys flying under the power of solar sails are such a wonderful and awe-inspiring concept, and Disney animates them beautifully.

Bringing the novel forward into a futuristic setting lends new interest to R.L. Stevenson's tale without sacrificing the richness of the unfolding adventure, and it's a pleasure to watch Silver and Jim develop a relationship and then cope with the way it complicates their conflicting goals.

I won't claim it's the best movie ever made, but I do suggest it to anyone looking for a Disney movie that stands out from the rest, and an adventure brewing with just the right combinmation of sweetness, excitement, and fun, kept interesting with the addition of a darker aspect not often included in Disney: a character with ambiguous allignment - neither good nor evil, but capable of both.

This is a very family oriented tale. I always loved reading "Treasure Island". I love the way the story is set into the future and how a young man deals with the problem of being with a single parent. Children can really relate to Jim's confusion. I also like how he is able to resolve the conflict inside of him with the help of someone who makes him take a good look at himself. Most teens I have talked to love this movie and can relate to it. I bought this copy for my daughter who was leaving home. It is one of her favorites.

Real cute movie. Grandkids love it! Awsome graphics. Keeps you involved and interested. Good for ALL ages.

Wow...what a great movie! This movie ranks up there with the older classics like Aladin. It tells a magnificently interesting story while teaching morals like never giving up on your dreams. This movie is great for both adults and children. My nephew for once finally watched a whole movie! If you have children or babysit often, this is a must have!

ENTERTAMENT for the whold family, what I like about it is how the story of treasure seekimg turn in to an ideal for the boy's life who had no father in his life and became something any way, as real as it can be,

This is a good family movie. We all enjoyed sitting down together and watching it, which is difficult with my children's different likes and dislikes. It was a little scary at parts for my six year old, but overall we all liked it very much!

I thought this was a very good movie and it's one of my daughters favorite. The music score was very good too and the characters were well played.

Super fun movie for the whole family, great plot, action and animation. It's Treasure Island in the future. Great for science fiction/fantasy fans. The superb animation and effects and well thought-out adaptation give a great adventure with a young main character in an adventure all the kids can identify with and dream for the future. The effects and plot will entertain even the oldest of the young at heart.

This was never one of those movies that I had to run out & get. I only got it because I had previous purchases w/a seller & would get a great deal on combined s&h.
My son is 4yrs old all boy. He enjoyed this the 1st time we watched it together because it was different/new, but it's not one of our favorites; not really one we'll watch over & over again.

I bought a nice movie, enjoy with mi family, thank arrive on time.

This is a fantastic movie choice for any family intrigued by treasure hunting. "Treasure Planet" blends the traditional treasure hunt with futuristic space travel. The characters and concepts are intriguing, humorous, well-animated, and there is a good sprinkling of high-flying action for adrenaline junkies. Boys who think they're "too cool" for Disney will enjoy this film!

LOVE the MUSIC!! A 'spin off' of a classic which was 'done' w/STYLE!! Some children/young people- even adults don't READ for pleasure or interest & don't know any classic literature. It's not easy for many people to take the time out to read in this BLAST of technology, but that's where gr8 movies come in, & that's where an old classic can still present itself to the masses that haven't been introduced to its adventure!! I love Disney- will ALWAYS, & I know there's a lot of 'bashers' out there that feel the need to pick up the 'cause' to destroy a good thing, but... I can think of a TON of causes that need 'champions' besides Disney. ANYWAY... :) There's ADVENTURE for the young AND young at heart here w/another beautiful animation!!

This is a great disney movie that did not get enough praise. I would recomend it for older kids though ages 7 and up. It is one of few animated kids movies that adults will enjoy watching as well!!!

A very good adaptation of a classic story...characters are great and likeable...or not...animation is wonderful and facial expressions can't be beat! I really LOVED the whales!

i would have to say it is one of the most fantastic animated movie to come out of a walt disney studio in years.If you like adventure, action and great animation this is a movie all parents and children can sit on watch over and over again for it take you into a fantasy land ride for great enjoyment.

This is my 4 year old son's favorite movie. If your child likes skateboarding he/she will love the scene where Jim Hawkins takes the solar sail for a fantasitc ride. My son often pretends to be this character. It is a movie filled with action, adventure and some real life 'coming of age' drama.

MY HUSBAND AND SON SAW THIS ON TV AND DECIEDED THAT THIS WAS A MOVIE THAT THEY COULD WATCH OVER AGAIN SO THAT IS WHY WE PURCHASED THE DVD

It was an average movie and worth watching but will probably never be a classic. My kids were entertained and have watched it a couple of times but not one of thier favorites either.

Great kids movie my daughter loves it! Lots of action and a good plot. The movie is great for kids who love action and adventure.

I love the futuristic adventure aspect of the movie. Jim is your typical teenager when he happens upon a map that reveals the location of the Treasure Planet. Follow him on his hunt for the treasure. There isn't anything I can think of that I don't like about his movie. It has been my favorite since I first saw it. I bought it on eBay because I couldn't find it in stores anywhere. I love scavenger hunt movies and this fits right in.

This is one of my personal favorite movies (I am 33!).. We used to have this movie, shortly after it came out, and one of the kids scratched it. The graphics, and the imagination used in writing and designing this movie, I think, are exceptional! I always seem to find new things that I had missed in previous viewings of the movie.. I am pretty sure you will love it as much as my family does!!!

Unfortunately we never received our order due to a dead beat seller.

It's a great movie and I highly recommend it. There is a lot of adventure and fun. I will be trying to get another copy soon.

As a long time cartoon / animated films geek, I have to say that I was really disappointed with the overall turn-out of folks to see Treasure Planet. It trully is a great film. It runs along side of Atlantis - a good story but no hype. I would recommend this movie for any animated films fan and all children. The film uses a lot of colors, action, a variety of different alien scenes, new and unique characters -- the works.

i personally didn't enjoy this but the grandkids loved it. i grew up with treasure island by stevenson and it was great ,but this seemed to be the same thing to them just updated
