) A wonderful book of Steinbeck's cross-country drive with Charley the Poodle. Long Island to Salinas CA by way of the North; returning through the conflicted South. Read by a young Gary Sinese who makes you believe you're listening to Steinbeck himself.
Very engaging: it made me look forwad to getting in the car to listen to more of the book. Steinbeck will never be accused of being warm and fuzzy but this book is charismatic and personable. A very different experience from The Grapes of Wrath for instance.

Jack Kerouac's book " on the road " was a fun read. Steinbeck's book is much better. A lot of wisdom is in the book. It's no wonder Steinbeck won the Nobel prize and other awards. Charley, by the way, is a poodle that he took along with him for company during this long road trip around America.
