C-Murder continues to do what he does best--the familiar aggressive raps over syncopated 808 beats and almost adolescent piano, weaving the West Coast and the dirty South into unsettling stories of "keeping it real." He's not above using cuts such as "Forever Tru" as a stick to beat his previous label Cash Money Records with, to set the record straight, and to assure his audience that he'll go down to the wire in order to be true to himself. Recruiting Krazy, and Tagg from his own Tru crew for "Thug in Yo Life," C-Murder finally steps out of the shadows of his brother Master P and comes into his own as a hit maker. TRAPPED IN CRIME's highlight is "Concrete Jungle" with the Eastsidaz, which comes complete with soothing West Coast keyboards and laid-back raps. Qb and Mystikal help out on "On Da Block" and on a track also available on Snoop Dogg's TOPP DOGG, "Down For Ma Niggas." TRAPPED IN CRIME is an unquestionable streetwise tour de force.
Editorial Reviews 3.5 mics out of 5 - ...[He] isn't afraid to shake things up by speaking his mind....managing to get several points across...while snarling and butchering the English language in classic Southern ghetto style... The Source (08/01/2000)
...His Tupac-style tales of ghetto life remain thuggish, but he adds blaxploitation soul and suprising musical gambits....proving there's no limit to what this street soldier can do. - Rating: B Entertainment Weekly (09/08/2000)
