Movie Description
Based on the Hasbro toy line that initially captivated kids in the 1980s, director Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS finds two warring bands of shape-shifting alien robots renewing their intergalactic conflict on Earth. While the Decepticons, followers of the malevolent Megatron (voiced by Hugo Weaving), strive to take over the planet, the Autobots, led by the valiant Optimus Prime (voiced by Peter Cullen), are intent on protecting humanity. When young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) discovers that his new car is really the Autobot Bumblebee (voiced by Mark Ryan), it sets the stage for a massive giant-robot showdown.

A shining example of the Hollywood summer blockbuster at its best, TRANSFORMERS combines stunning CGI effects and thrilling action sequences with drama, humor, and a touch of romance. Featuring a large cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Jon Voight, John Turturro, Anthony Anderson, and Rachael Taylor, the film is anchored by LaBeouf, who always displays an engaging Everyman charm, whether he's running from colossal robots, interacting with his well-meaning parents (hilariously played by Kevin Dunn and Julie White), or pining for his gorgeous classmate (Megan Fox). While some TRANSFORMERS purists may be dismayed by certain aspects of this bold big-screen adaptation (Bumblebee is a Camaro instead of a Volkswagen), the movie balances its spectacle with an admirable amount of substance, giving it an appeal far beyond pre-teen boys and their nostalgic Autobot-loving elders.

    Introduction

Before seeing this dvd I thought it was going to be a good kids movie. After seeing it, wow, great for all ages. Fantastic special effects, good story line and I'm glad the VW Bug was changed to a Camero. Highly recommend it.

Like most "kids of the 80's", I watched the animated series "Transformers" every day, and yeah...I really liked it (even though it was a 'boys show'), but I also loved Thundercats and G.I.Joe as well. Cartoons of the 80's were good stuff...interesting characters, great writing and engaging enough to keep us kids fans of the shows for over 20 years.

When I first heard that a Transformers live action movie was being made, I was a bit excited. Then I started seeing the trailers and first commercials for the film and I got a bad feeling. I am usually pretty good at 'feeling out' good and bad movies.

The Transformers movie came out and I didn't go to see it. Then it came on video and I didn't rent it. It was available on my computer and I didn't watch it. I STILL would not have seen it, except someone bought me the DVD for Christmas...knowing how much I loved 80's cartoons and thinking I'd like this movie. Well...their heart was in the right place, anyway.

Simply said, THIS LIVE-ACTION, 2007 TRANSFORMERS MOVIE HAS IN MUCH IN COMMON WITH THE "80'S TRANSFORMERS SERIES" AS THE MOVIE "GREASE" HAS IN COMMON WITH A COOKING SHOW.

Basically, this movie is ok for kids age 13-18. I have heard some glowing reviews from kids who were too young to have ever seen the original 1980's series. I have also heard some "okay" reviews also from the late 40-something parents of these teenagers, who mostly were impressed by the computer-generated visuals the film relies so heavily on.

Yes...we live in an age where computers can create amazing visual effects in movies. Yup, they sure can. The integration between real live actors and computer created characters and effects is really something...but at what cost? The cost is the plot...the story-telling...and yes, the acting too. A very weak story at the cost of amazing visual effects. If you don't mind that, then sure...this is a great movie. As for me...I guess I am an old-fashioned 30-year old, and I actually do care about things like a good plot and great writing.

I am sorry, but I cannot recommend this movie. To fans of the original series, I would have to think you would be quite disappointed. To those who were too young to have watched the original, I don't think this movie is really very good to waste your time and money on. Do yourself a favor go buy the original 1980's animated tv series if you want to watch some Transformers.

Alright, so when I went to rent this for my daughter I was spectical about the movie, but I was amazed! It is a truely awesome movie. I would recommend highly. Growing up watching the TV cartoon, it was just awesome!
