Train Your Dog - The Positive Gentle Method (DVD, 2003)

When I adopted a dog a month ago, I viewed four dog-training DVDs including this one, and "Train Your Dog" was far and away the best of them. In fact, if I had found this DVD a little earlier, it could have saved me the $100 I spent on a training course. All the techniques are explained clearly and demonstrated more than once with different ages and sizes of dogs. The knowledge I gained made training my dog a breeze (she has even learned to ring a bell to let me know that she needs to go outside!). Using these techniques, there is simply no need to condition your dog using harsh commands, choke chains, or physical intimidation. My dog is my friend, and these techniques have enabled me to elicit desireable behavior from my dog while communicating my respect and love for her.

The DVD does suffer from some very minor editing problems, but the professionalism of the two trainers who present the information more than compensates for a little lack of polish in the production itself. I found this DVD so valuable, I bought two additional copies to pass on to dog-owning friends.

This is a well made DVD on basic training for your dog. Nicole Wilde and Laura Bourhenne, both experts in the field, approach training from a gentle reward POV, instead of a “dominance over”.

Many examples and step by step do's and don'ts. I like their premise of win-win for the dog. No pushing, no forcing, no ego -- Just good caring, working with the dogs, creating a relationship in which you’re the benevolent leader.

Besides in-depth demostrations on the basics, such as sit, stay, down, come, heeling etc. The DVD covers problem areas of jumping, potty training, and agressiveness. And much more.
