An adventure movie actually filmed on location in Africa in 1929 & 1930, that was an enormous undertaking at the time. ★There will NEVER be another movie made with the abundance of wildlife filmed in this movie, the numbers of animals simply do NOT exist today!!!!★. In 1929 Africa was still the deep, dark, mysterious continent. The movie was filmed using an actual native tribe, they are not extras! The chants, songs and some of the dialog is authentic to the tribe. The Serengeti migration was literally 10's of millions of animals, reptiles and birds, with almost every species ever seen included in some part of the migration, was filmed as it happened in 1929. Today's migration is down to less than 2 million with some varieties extinct or reduced to a handful. The cast and crew paid a lengthy price to complete the film, many became ill throughout the filming. Many suffered, had to be hospitalized and some of the crew even ★paid for this film with their lives★. Filmed in glorious black and white(color film had not been invented) with some of the major stars of that time: Harry Carey and ★Edwina Booth to name a couple. Though maybe not known as one of the all time classic movies, it should be! The movie was an ★Oscar Nominee for BEST PICTURE★ in 1931! The location, travel nightmares, animal attacks, disease and death looming in the jungle made completing this movie almost a miracle. This is a movie that would be rated G or maybe PG(there are a few "racey love scenes") that you, not could but should, set down and watch with family, your children or grandchildren. I can guarantee you anyone, including adults will be impressed with the infinite numbers of wildlife. Though the special effects and story line may not be as over the top as films made today, the on location filming and animals, plus the fact that it was made 80 years ago more than make up for it. I would recommend on a rainy or snowy, cool Sunday afternoon. 5 STARS!★★★★★
