God's dead? But I thought...

I decided to buy the book because of the humor it promised. God died- so the religious are freaking out. The fact that his body is floating around in the Atlantic proves that the atheists were wrong- so they're freaking out. The religious are trying to entomb the body up north, while the atheists are trying to destroy the evidence. Add in a couple of feminists who loathe the misogyny that God represents, and you have a recipe for laughter.
Despite the humorous set-up, the drama that unfolds is rather serious. However, Morrow writing these things in a serious manner allows a freethinking reader to realize just how silly humans can react to unexpected situations.
The many characters in the book allow for a complexity of human behavior, yet only a few are well developed. Some of the details in the story (God-sized zits and deistic cannibalism, for example) border on the disgusting.
All in all, it was a decent read- well thought out, and thought provoking. It would surely offend fundamentalists, but is an amusing read for atheists, agnostics, and those who really don't take religion all that seriously.
