Tour of Duty - Season One (DVD, 2004, 5-Disc Set)

The great thing about the DVD market is the fact that entire seasons of TV shows are being released and marketed in a single package. I've been a second shifter for years now and have missed many good programs over that time. So, when my freind Scott (who runs a New and Used DVD store) came across Tour Of Duty Season Two for an exceptionally good price, being a war moive fan, I jumped at it. I watched about 5 episodes and decided that I had to have season one. Since Scott didn't have any good leads on it, I started looking on E Bay. After bidding a few times, I finally won. I could not have been happier. Season One, from the pilot on, takes off running as you begin to meet and follow one platoon on their tour of duty. Each episode looks at personality adjustments to conflicts in the jungle. There is a good mix of emotion, action and the reality of being in war enviroment. All in all, I'm enjoying this show for the first time around and wondering why it only lasted three seasons. I recommend it to those of you who enjoy war movies. Note: it is toned down for TV, unlike Band Of Brothers, the language is milder and the gore is not quite as graffic but you still get a feel of the realities of war. Get it, you'll like it. FOOTNOTE: since writing this review, I have had the good fortune to purchase and watch Seasons 2 & 3 of Tour of Duty. I would recommend them all!!!. Each season builds on the prior one and the story gets better. The characters mature and build relationships. The problems that plagued the Viet Namm era both there and back home are incorporated. No character is safe from being killed which adds to the reality of war. I was sorry that there wasn't a season four or five, but the last episode of season three kind of tied up any loose ends and gave finality to the series. (This revision was made on 1-4-07)

This is a phenomenal series about the Vietnam war. It does not pick political sides it gives you the good, the bad, and the ugly from many different aspects. Having been stationed in Hawaii where this was filmed, and having spent nine and a half years wearing the uniform, I am very impressed with its detail and accuracy. I would recommend this DVD series to anyone who likes war movies or good drama.

i like it because it was about the unit i was in when i was in vietnam 196th.it reminded me of when i was in vietnam.most of the thinks that happened in the show happen when i was there

The DVDs came right away all the way directly to me in Afghanistan. They even paid the shipping for me because they saw I am with the Army in Afghanistan.

I bought this set as a gift for my brother who liked the series when it was on TV as much as I did. I believe this to be the most honest portrayal of a controversial war. The characters are people you really care about and the stories riveting. Caution: May be difficult for veterans of this conflict to watch.

For anyone like myself who served in the Nam these are wonderful. Really shows how things were from day to day. Right up there with Platoon!

Some of the music has been changed from the original presentation. It does not always work. It is nice to see this series presented in DVD format.

My husband has always loved Tour of Duty. Last year I bought him season 3. This year I bought the first and second season so he has all three. He is very happy with them as am I. The set arrived in a timely manner and arrived in excellent condition. I am very pleased and happy with this experience.

I HAVE SEEN IT ON DVD THAT A FRIEND HAS AND IT WAS REALLY GOOD. THE PEOPLE I BOUGHT IT FROM SAID THEY SENT IT BUT I NEVER RECIEVED IT. TOUR OF DUTY IS VERY MUCH THE WAY IT WAS ACCORDING TO MY LATE FATHER WHO SERVED OVER THERE.

I've been watching the series when I was still studying and just like it, as the series progresses. Althought the copies are not digital quality and not so clear, still enjoys it.

the collection is great I also have season two and I am sure I will but season three also. I am a vietnam vet and I feel they did a good job showing what it was like over there.

i bought this iten approx 2=3 weeks ago. when I received the item it was in very excellent condition, awesome product just like new. I have enjoyed watching the set with my wife who loved the series. we love this and plan on buying the other seasons.
