Early Dr. Seuss collection
The reason for the purchase of this book was my personal love of Dr. Seuss. Early in his publishing career, he was unpopular among educators because of his whimsical style -- made up words, rhyming, etc. However, he soon became a favorite and is now a classic children's author and illustrator. This particular book is not a child's book -- it is a collection from the early career of Dr. Seuss, when he wrote and illustrated for humor magazines. He signed his work in those days "Dr. Theophrastus Seuss." This collection is edited by Richard Marshall, and reads like a black-and-white magazine. The sections are: The Essays of Theophrastus Seuss; Dr. Seuss's Little Educational Charts; Boids and Beasties: Piscozooavistical Surveys; Dr. Seuss's Cartoon Collection; and Quick, Henry, the Flit! For a child's collection, this book would be among the dusty, never-read. For an adult, it is quite humorous, and enjoyable.
