Total Recall (Blu-ray Disc, 2006)

I bought this at a local "Wally World" for 15 bucks and I can safely say the quality of this blu-ray transfer is mediocre at best. For the audio I did not notice any major flaws but was sub par. The video had many issues with the quality, for instance you could see burn marks on some of the scenes with lines etc throughout the feature. During some parts of the movie the video quality became so poor that I had to wonder why. Well I believe that since the source of the movie from 1990 is so old that It did not have a very good source. Also I believe that Lionsgate did a lower quality in part to save money but still call it blu-ray, hence the 25gb instead of a dual layer blu-ray disc. If you really love this movie and don't already own I would suggest this, however if you already own it on dvd, just do an up-conversion and the quality will probably be better than blu-ray. I guess I will have to look on blu-ray.com to check the quality of the discs before I purchase from now on.

Total Recall revels in the state-of-the-art special effects and frantic violence characteristic to most of director Paul Verhoeven's American productions. Though based on a story by the creator of Blade Runner, author Philip K. Dick, Total Recall is more of an action movie than a philosophical rumination on identity. Still, the film gets a lot of mileage out of the questionable notion that "you are what you remember." The screenplay was finally credited to seven screenwriters; it had bounced around Hollywood for a number of years with different directors and stars before it reached Verhoeven. The director's brand of high-octane, cartoonish violence is a good fit with the material, though his style may have been better suited to 1988's more satiric Robocop. The movie received a special achievement Academy Award for its impressive effects.

Well, it wasn't a very good example of Blu-Ray technology, as it was better than a standard dvd, but not much better.

I hold a bias for this film. I have enjoyed this movie many times and am confident I shall continue to do so for years to come.

Always loved this movie. It's even better in Blu-ray. Easy menu options. Great sound. If you like classic Arnold movies, this is one of them to get.

This was already a really entertaining movie, really good special effects for this one. Come on you guys no what Blu-ray does for special effects, boy oh boh!

Always entertaining and great effects! I remember seeing this when I was a kid and loved it, but now I can really appreciate the story and the effects on blu-ray!

Arnold at what he does best. Great movie and has great special effects for the year it was made. Highly recommended film.

A Grand slam movie for Arnold, below average for Blu ray. You can tell as soon as you start to play the movie that it is a direct DVD port, no remastering done here, however the sound is incredible . I even got Commando on Blu ray and it looks way better and it was an earlier flick of Schwarzenegger
as well. If you don’t have the DVD of Total Recall and you want the movie, here you go otherwise id wait to see if they get around to remastering this classic for blu ray.
