Toshiba HD-A2KU DVD Player
This player is not 1080p but it is 1080i and of course 720p, so while it isn't the most advanced player on the market, it delivers a good amount of technology for the buck. The problem is that HD DVD is out of business which means it might be hard to find a new unit. I purchased a used unit for around $50 and that is a bargain! You can find a lot of HD movies on Amazon.com for $5 or less and many of them are eligible for free super shipping. Look it will play your regular DVDs and the HD DVDs but NOT the Bluray. Bottomline is that if you can only pony out so much dough and want to save substantially on movie titles with the understanding that you will not be getting the newest releases or the 1080p then this is the unit for you. I ran out and bought a Toshiba HD DVD A2 as soon as I heard Blueray won the war, so I already own a bunch of titles and Toshiba has always proved reliable in my experience. So good luck.
