The 1966 classic Alfred Hitchcock movie. Filmed in Berlin, Germany; Copenhagen, Denmark and some stuidio shots in universal City, CA.

Plot summary:
U.S. rocket scientist Michael Armstrong and his assistant/fiancée Sarah Sherman are attending a convention in Copenhagen. Michael is acting very suspiciously and Sarah follows him to East Germany when he apparently tries to defect to the other side.

  A real thriller

I bought it because of the actors. The movie kept your attention. Very heavy on suspense. Unexpected ending. You see this movie once, you have to see it again.

Cold War Spy movie~ Julie does NOT sing~ LOL very good~
Review created: 05/13/08(updated 05/13/08)

PLOT: BEHIND THE IRON CURTAIN (REFERENCE TO THE "TORN" CURTAIN)..has Scientist Michael Armstrong HUNK Paul Newman and Julie Andrews (Sarah Sherman) his assistant /fiancee tagging along~Suddenly Armstrong turns and defects TO THE East Germans behind the IRON CURTAIN BETRAYING THE US~ Hitchcock movie very good~

Paul Newman as the physics professor / scientist traveling to Europe a conference with his assistant /fiancee Julie Andrews (Sarah) ADDED SOME HUMOR at the Airport when a Prima Ballerina lands in a plane and assumes the 'CROWD' IS THERE TOO GREAT HER~ AND THEY ARE THERE FOR "ARMSTRONG".. ~~ CLEVER FUNNY SCENE~ we see passion and sizzle when the pair travel to Europe we suddenly see~ Armstrong (Newman) DEFECT to the communists~ hurt and betrayed Sarah Michael tries to convince Sarah to come along~first we cannot see how this 100% American man can do this! but this is a Hitchcock spy movie~ he has an "agenda"~ suddenly the brainy couple are swept off to East Germany and are surrounded by the East German Police~ Michel makes contact with his spy contacts a farmer and his wife ....and ALL three HAVE to end up killing the East German Policeman who "follows" Michael ~ inspite of an elusive attempt to ditch him~ excellent thrills in a kitchen~ simple but very effective~ we see THE "PLAN/ PLOT" ~ that Michael is trying to make contact with a East German "Scientist" who he plans to CON into providing HIM info~ info ONLY another scientist would understand~! Once he has the info~ ESCAPE~now with the East German POLICE hot on the couples trail BOARD a bus trip TO HIGH ADVENTURE WHEN yet more spies help the pair escape~ as part of the escape~ they ADD~ a fake bus so Michael and Sara can escape~ to a very busy route and the fun and thrills begin~ THEY END up on their own and an English speaking East Germany woman offers to help them if they agree to "sponsor" her so she can immigrate USA~ when this fails they try another means to escape and we end up with the SAME Prima Ballerina at the being of the movie~ this "witch" is funny~ who spots them hiding in a theatre~ and alerts the police to them~ and later she thinks she is spotting them again~ clever use of the same character at the begining and the end of the movie~ great Hitchcock touch~
Julie Andrews is very good and very pretty and not a song in the whole movie>LOL
Paul Newman gives a very good solid job~ giving us thrills along the way too~ great casting and plot~
DATED due to cold war theme but a good solid HITCHCOCK SPY ADVENTURE~
I GIVE IT A SOLID 8 OUT OF 10 FOR SPY THRILLER ADVENTURE~
