There is just no way to not love this book. Whether you are a fan of Artie Lange or not, the book is fresh and insightful, and it almost goes without saying, funny as hell. Not for the faint of heart (but seriously is anything connected with Howard Stern for the faint of heart?), the narrative is laced with expletives, the situations are sometimes raunchy or downright gross, and the author is not trying to paint a pretty picture of his addiction-riddled life. Once you get past the reality backwash, it is a book filled with honesty and humor as well as some surprising insights.

Artie Lange fully admits to having lived his life thus far as a first-class f***-up, allowing himself to be caught up in every imaginable vice and addiction. But he firmly believes, along with his boss, that his vices feed his amazing comedic genius. His ability to survive his own behavior in itself seems an act of genius. Personally, I think that Artie is one of that rare breed of comedian who can make people laugh hysterically with the most offhand unscripted comment. The life of decadence may make for some inherently funny situations, but I think this guy could make the telephone book funny. Ease up on yourself Artie, the world needs funny guys like you.

While I expected a book filled with humorous stories, what I didn't expect was the down-to-earth telling of them. The narrative is sometimes simplistic, but it really makes you feel like Artie is in the room with you telling you these stories. While I laughed myself sick at times, I also had tears in my eyes over the author's description of his relationship with his father, and his family's life after his father's tragic accident.

All in all the book will leave you feeling that there is a great deal more to Artie Lange than raunchy humor. He came across to me as a genuinely nice human being who cares deeply about the people who make up his universe. His occasional deeper insights (such as his description of the happiest moment of his childhood) reveal him as a complex man, whose flaws only make him that much more interesting. I loved this book, and I like Artie Lange more than ever. I wish him a long life with many fishing trips.

  Surprisingly simple truth

I wasn't sure what to expect about Artie Lange as book author, but this book pleasantly surprised me. I love Artie as part of the Howard Stern morning group and as a stand up comic in his own right. I expected the book to be more comical in nature.....i.e., Artie poking jokes on EVERY topic. And though there is that part of it, there are brilliant writings by this man about pain in his life. Dealing with his father's situation the way he did will bring you to tears, for in one sentance, you're laughing with him and how Artie's father got Artie onto the ball field to the short stop position during a New York Yankees World Series clinch and then you're brought to tears within a few pages about the heroic life he and his family faced during a work tragedy of his dad. I don't want to give it away....just read it. You will love it. In ways you feel like you're sitting with Artie in a bar as he tells you his stories, and at other times you feel like you're reading a note from a close relative.

Even if you never heard of Artie Lange or anything about the Howard Stern show, get this book and read it. To me it is simply one man's truthful story about his life and how everyone in the end faces our own demons, fears and cheers.

i'm a friend of artie's. i bought it for another friend of mine. Ebay is garbage. I recommend using anybody but them. I recently sold something to a buyer and ebay made a mistake and listed it twice, so 2 people paid me, i gave one guy his money back and he turned around and gave me a negative feedback. ebay will go under. the sooner the better. they are garbage for allowing this and other shady practices to take place.

Artie is as great in the book as in person. Very great story! Depth and honesty truly come through in a vibrant and telling story or life story. He adds so much to Howard Sterns show that if they lost him it would be tragic.

Check this link out after you read the following.

Just take a couple of minutes and read this. This is very EASY to do! It literally
takes 10 minutes to setup. Simply follow the steps below. I promise you,
this is 100% real. I will answer you on any question! Here is what you
do. Click on the link below, register, pick an account type (referral is
the easiest) and complete just 1 offer (Very important that you complete
the 1 offer otherwise your account will sit in limbo until you do). This
is not like other sites where you need to complete one offer on 2 or 3
different pages!!! And a lot of these offers are FREE trials with
nothing else to buy...No commitments!!!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster
online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would
regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use
them to get a free PS3 System or cash (I did the Stamps.com for a 30 day
free trial and it never cost me a penny and I received credit for it the
same day). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you.
After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 8-13 people
(depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link
(just post the same thing as I have on eBay, and you'll get your
referrals before the auction even ends.)

Then they will ship your PS3 System or your selected item for free, I
chose the PS3 80gb System. No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these
companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all
the referrals. All you have to do is post it ! They use us as
advertisement by word of mouth which saves them tons of money which goes
toward yours and my free gift. These are legit companies such as
Blockbuster, Netflix, Gamefly etc... You can copy my listing if you
want. You must use your own authentic link though. You will get your own
personal link after your orders placed.

Step 1: Click this link:http://www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=5586712

Step 2: Sign up and chose an account type (Referral is the easiest and
best).

Step 3: Complete just 1 offer (like Blockbuster or Stamps.com) and refer
up to 13 people to do the same (use eBay OR FORUMS)

Free!!!)

Glad I read it but how depressing. The boy has issues. Fabulous life in spite of his own self. Wish he could get it together. He would make a fabulous father and have a fabulous career if he doesn't do himself in prematurely. Therapy ain't no big thing Artie. Besides, do you really want to put your mom thru another hell experience?

What you'd expect in a book by Artie Lange
Review created: 09/23/09
by:

This book is a quick read, and provides insight into the saddeningly twisted world of a truly funny comedian. What Artie gives insight into, he holds little back, unafraid to expose his very private experiences. It's an interesting book for anyone who's a fan of Artie, or who wants to understand the spiral that so many comedians face.

  Superb book!!!
Review created: 05/31/09

Artie is one of a kind and I have been following his career for a very long time even before the Howard Stern Show. He is a major player in the comedy game. His book is a fantastic look into the life of a drug using, over eating, Jack drinking amazing comedian. I have met him a number of times and he is the nicest and most giving performer in the business today.

  GREAT BOOK!!
Review created: 03/26/09
by:

This was a great book for any fan of Artie Lange. He tells some stories that he has not told on air with Howard Stern, or in any other interview. You get a real sense of where he is coming from and it's interesting to see all the trials he has been through in his life. You walk away feeling like you know him on a more personal level. He really makes you feel like you are there the way he tells his stories. Overall this is a great book that I definatly would recomend

Artie Lange is one of the funniest people on this earth
Review created: 02/21/09

This book, although long for someone who has lived such a short life, is pretty good. He has demons that will eventually kill him. I truly hope he gets help and lives a longggggggg, "happy life."
He blames his drug problem on the death of his dad but every addict has a sorry reason, but I don't buy it. It doesn't cut the mustard with me. Artie, everyone has their pain, their feelings of inferiority, their problems. Grow up already and be the man your dad was! May you live a long time because I love you on the Howard Stern show!

Entretaining & Emotional - Easy Read
Review created: 02/21/09
by:

If you have followed Howard Stern, this book is for you. Although the Sirius audience is treated to every detail of Howard's and his crew's lives, this book goes into the funny and darker side of Artie and exposes you to details that have never been revealed in the radio. It's a roller coaster of emotions ranging from funny annecdotes into how he got into comedy to very dark moments of an addict's life. It is written in cronologically order, however, the style is conversational and stories are told in free form with side stories within chapters that are somewhat related to the period of time, but not really. If you are not familiar with the Howard Stern show, this might seem somewhat disorganized, but it is consistent with how he potrays himself on the show. While I only know him as a Sirius sidekick of Howard Stern and have never seen him on a comedy show, I felt that he was honest about the experiences that he describes in the book. It's a quick and easy read and I recommend it.
