Good GPS if bought under retail price 16 of 17 people found this review helpful.
This is a good GPS system if purchased in the $350 range and under. If has alot of features, but some work well and other don't. For instance, it has fast and accurate IQ routing. Which actually makes a huge difference over standard routes. The IQ routing is able to take historical traffic data and suggest the fastest route based on this data. The bluetooth connection for your cell phone work OK, as it connects sometime and other times you have to force connect, which can be a pain and time waster. Also, not all cell phone are compatible, even popular cell phones may not be supported. If this is the case, then only the bluetooth send/recieve call option will work. The data connection and the text messaging will not work if your phone is not supported. Lastly, the text to speech function is very cumbersome and very inaccurate. I speak clearly and louding when I try to use it and it more often than not gets the address and/or location wrong. Overall its a great unit, but needs to be purchased below retail before it becomes a real value.

I wanted a GPS that had TTS (text-to-speech), meaning it speaks the street names instead of just saying something like"turn right on the next street." I also wanted bluetooth for my phone. This unit has both, although I don't use the bluetooth as much as I thought I would. TomTom has a neat online feature called TomTom HOME, which allows you to manage your GPS on your computer. You can add maps, share map corrections and download others' map corrections (mapshare), plan a route, etc. TomTom also has the latest map guarantee, which allows you to download the latest map edition if the unit you purchased does not already have the latest map installed. As far as TomTom vs. Garmin, it was a toss-up for me. I went with TomTom because I liked the mapshare feature. Friends with Garmins love their Garmins as much as I love my TomTom. I highly advise going to http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=278957#278957 and following the instructions for backing up your TomTom BEFORE downloading any new software or map editions. The newest map edition has an issue with the voice breaking up, which I have been able to live with so far but which I can see can become aggravating. If you have backed up your software per the instructions at pocketgpsworld, you can always revert to the old software, although I believe you need the newest software to run the newest map edition (I could be wrong, though). All in all, the TomTom 730 is everything I wanted and needed, and my only complaint is the voice breaking up with the newest software edition.
