TomTom XL 340.S Car GPS Receiver

I bought this item, a TomTom 340s, because a friend has a TomTom 730 and this is the best model I could afford. The unit arrived on time and I must say it has great eye appeal. Connected it to my computer and in twenty minutes it caused the computer to crash!Called support and they couldn't fix the problem. They tried three times and finally said send it back and we will send you a NEW ONE. Five days later I received a corrugated box with a unit wrapped in bubble wrap.No power cord,no usb cord,no instruction booklet,nothing but the 340s. I called and they gave me a website to down load the booklet.
I just finished trying to download the updates and the website says the UNIT does not have sufficient memory to handle the update. I don't think I would advise anyone to purchase this model. Had I looked at the reviews before buying,I would have seen that many people have had the SAME problem and guess what, TOMTOM doesn't care. THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ONE OF THE WORST I'VE EVER DEALT WITH!

The product itself is excellent. I have used both Garmin and TomTom. While Garmin has the more user friendly and more option GPS system, TomTom has the more accurate. This is the main reason I purchased a GPS system is for accuracy, not the frills. While the frills are nice, it is somewhat annoying to reach where you think the turn is and realize you just passed it as is the case with Garmin.

The only problem I have with TomTom is the customer service. I do not know what the Garmin customer service is like, but with TomTom I am usually on hold for nearly 20 - 30 minutes before getting hold of a live person.

I am recently widowed and have been afraid to drive in high traffic areas. If I didn't learn to do this, I would miss grandkids graduations, marriages etc! The TOM TOM is allowing me to get into the city on my own and with complete confidence!!

I bought the TomTom XL 340.S primarily for the "S" feature, sopken street names. It works pretty nicely. However, when I buy another portable GPS, I will likely not by another TomTom. Why? A couple of little reasons. One, the screen is hard to see with a bright background. Held down low sway from the windshield it shows up fine. At night its' brightness must be set on low. The other reason, I would like to sit it on my dash on a flat area but the power cord attached to the bottom of the unit making it sit uneven. Another slight glitch: It will say you have reached your destination sometimes a half a block away. I have had another brand that wouldn't announced until you were ready to stop.

I watched this unit for a long time. It was selling at auction for from $140 to $185. I bought my unit "Buy-It-Now" for $159.95 including shipping. Even with the glitches I mentioned above, it's not for sale . . .yet.

my parents are getting old and they love to travel, some times my dad got lost and did not know how to find his way back to the freeway, This is an excellent products and works in Mexico too where my parents go often. I recommend it to anyody that needs one, specially for drivers that are in the road all the times, I bouth my first 4 years ago, and another in March for my 20 y.o. son who used to work for COMCAST but this is the last one and the best for my parents. Speaker clear and calls street by street and when to exit freeway 1/2 mile before.

great buy, the text to speak option is great battery life is great, lArger screen comes in handy for my not perfect eye sight and the voice that speaks to you is loud and clear

I like the size, the options, variations on the viewing screen, and the updating capabilities. I previously owned another brand name, but I found the Tom Tom offered me more.

This company provided the product on time and exactly as advertised. The unit is the second TomTom I have owned and has many new features. I would recommend it to anyone.

The product was returned. It was advertised as new but arrived without any packaging, instructions or warranty.

Product is pretty much as advertised - this is a lower end model but it performs great - even my techno-phobe wife likes it.

What I am impressed with is the help line... I had a problem downloading a map and I have never experienced as positive an experience as I did with the Tom-Tom help line - and I managed tech help lines for 10 years.

If they made other products - I'd buy them

I purchased it on e-bay. I saved $100.00 than buying at Staples. I own land in Mexico, and it has updated maps there. I got stuck setting it up,and was guided by a live person in how to fix it. I can't really say anything bad about this product. I like it. Don

The unit can and does fall out of the holder. Must be careful when mounting into the holder that sticks to the windshield.

Otherwise, very easy to use, street names announced and very nice graphics. Excellent package. Was updated on maps on the TomTom site.

Bought two of these units. They are easy to use. It was very easy to download the up dated maps from the Tom Tom site. I'm sure that my daughters will get good use from them.

Have wanted a GPS for a couple of years. Tom Tom comes highly recommended and the prices on E-Bay for the most part can't be beat.

I love this thing. It has some really nice features. I wish it would have included a wall charger but it still comes with a usb cable for updates and a car charger. So far, nothing bad to say about it.

there's not one thing i dislike about this gps system.. its incredibly updated and you will never get lost with one.

This product is very easy to use. It is much better than my last GPS that was in my Mercedes. The screen is easy to read and the lane directions are great.

Brand new in the box, easy instructions, very fast shipping and great communications with the seller.

I compared other GPS receivers to this one. I definitely got a deal. I could have purchased a more difficult to use one with more bells and whistles but that's just more to break or not work. It is not bluetooth compatible, the only disadvantage but it tells the name of the road to turn on. It was in deed brand new in the box with all accessories included. I did not have to leave my house to get in all that traffic and SHIPPING WAS FREE.
