TomTom ONE 140 -S Car GPS Receiver

Really a great gps. This is my first gps, and it was up and working for me in about five minutes right out of the box. Took it for spin and worked flawlessly. Great unit for the price. The spoken street names kept me from having to look at the unit while driving. Also the lane advise was an added bonus, plus a whole lot more. Recommended unit, if you like ease of use.

The item was delivered quickly; it was well protected from the rain. The item is in its original factory wrapping as promised!

I previously upgraded from the TomTom One 130 to this TomTom One 140s for the advanced lane guidance and I absolutely love it.

The spoken street names are nice but no big deal (You have to select a computer voice to get street names. The natural voice can only say pre-recorded things). The names are probably helpful for people who do not want to take their eyes of the road. However, those people will miss the absolute greatest feature which is the advanced lane guidance. It is so nice to get advanced notice that there are multiple lanes coming up and being told very clearly by means of the multiple arrows which lane(s) you can choose. I live in the Seattle area and found that it will show those arrows for nearly all large intersections that have multiple turning lanes. On the freeway you not only get the guidance arrows at the bottom, but frequently a big computer generated picture that clearly depicts all lanes and on/off ramps with big arrows inside the lanes you can choose. It is actually quite shocking when it then switches back to the standard lines view. They feel like cave drawings by comparison. I think it is already technically possible to make this realistic picture view the (moving) permanent view (kind of like a video game). All they need to do is extend their database to include the number of lanes of a road.

Two other improvements over the 130 are that you can add your own Points Of Interest. Although the 130 already allowed you to download locations from Google Maps as Favorites, adding them as POIs will display them on the map just as any other POI and reduce the clutter in your Favorites. The other minor improvement is the ability to create an itinerary. The itinerary is basically a sequence of destinations (with some minor editing capabilities such as adding, removing and moving a destination up or down in the list) which you can save as an itinerary. Just like the 130, the 140s is accurate, quick to draw the screen and recalculate the directions if you stray off course. If you notice after a while that the satellite aquisition is taking longer, connect the TomTom to your PC and update it and the aquisition will be back to a few seconds. I updated my 130 about once a month.

So far I haven't noticed the IQ Routes giving me different routing suggestions than the 130, but I have only had it for a few days and my trips so far may not have required a special IQ re-route. If I notice any specially great or bad routing later, I will add it to this review.

i by tom tom capo day ago my only complaint is that the dislike because no electrical charge i like i can carryin in a pocke I'd recommend the tom tom if you're on a budget.

I was looking for a GPS that would satisfy my needs. Everything about TomTom One 140-S is what I wanted - small in size, maps can be updated & it has voice, so I don't have to keep looking at it. Also it came very quickly, which was most helpful.

I have had no quarrels with this product to date. I have owned it for three months now. I like that it is compact because I also use it on the motorcycle. I don't use the voice feature so i can't really comment about that. I have updated maps from the computer and have not had the same issues as some other reviewers have. This is a solid basic unit for short money with more features than I even use. I rate it excellent because it serves my purpose perfectly.

The packaging was great,and I received it sooner than I expected. I have not tried the tom-tom gps because it is a gift, but everything looks good and intact,just pray that it works well.

Like the ease of use and the voice street commands. This is the second one we have purchased and also have a Garmin Nuvi but this one is simpler than the garmin. Easy to pack for travel. Only thing I don't like is the windshield mount as it isn't easy to snap in the device. Otherwise great and would buy again.

There is nothing I can say that I do not like about this. Of course this is my first GPS but I am extremely pleased with it's usability right out of the box. The downloadable voices are just a trip! So funny. If you are internet literate (not genious) this is a great toy, user friendly and it really does show the best routes and timing! I have really enjoyed this Tom Tom so far.
The reason I bought it is I can't find my way out of a brown paper sack and I really did need some guidence. This not only keeps me from getting lost I am really entertained by the voices telling me where to go! If you know the address to your destination you have got it made!

My wife has difficutly finding addresses and the TOM TOM will help her out, great device which will meet her needs without spending a lot of money

Works great. I especially like the English computer voice that gives me turn by turn directions with called out street names. I find it hard to read the small street name text on the screen. Having all the street name text read aloud means I can concentrate on driving.

Another great feature is the breakaways to show complicated intersections in full 3D street view with arrows telling you what lane to stay in. Very nice!

Updates are a breeze after you figure out how to get hooked up on the net.

Overall, this unit is well worth the money spent.

I purchased this prodct because I'm planning a trip to the east coast by car - I hope the device will help me navigate.
I have had only limited opportuinties to use it and, only locally.

It seems to perform very well. What I dislike is that the "owners manual" supplied with the product is very basic -
> One has to experiment to learn how to program a route into the device; there are no specific, detailed step-by-step instructions in the "handbook".
>Upon being notified by email that an updated map was avaialble for downloading, I attempted to download it. The download failed because apparently there is not enough memory on the device to accomodate the new maps. I was advisedd that it was necessary to delete some material resident on the device. I have no idea how to do that or, what to delete. Apparently those instructions may be available on line, but I have not yet been able to find them. I will contact Tom-Tom technical support to try to learn how to do what is required.

It's understandable to use even if I make a mistake I can correct myself and get where i want to go. On the downside, the unit has taken me to the wrong place on two occassions because I didn' t know the exact address and only knew the place name.
