This is a very good wide angle lens! Easy on the wallet, but yet superb image quality and built like a tank!! Distortions are very low. The only reason it got a 4/5 instead of 5/5 is the ever so slight fringing you get under certain circumstances, this is a fault of many wide angle lenses, sadly.

The AT-X Pro stands for Advanced Technology-Extra Professional, which means professional build and image. This lens has a constant maximum aperture of f/4, which is indicative of a pro lens. The lens does not extend during zooming and the front element does not rotate during focusing. The use of a polarizer is no problem with this lens.
Wide angle distortion is there, but it's quite controlled when compared to other ultra wide angle lenses, and virtually disappears at the long end. Center resolution is very high, with slight fall off in the corners at f/4, but the corners sharpen up nicely at f/5.6. CA's are pronounced, but this is easily corrected with most photo editing programs out there.
This is a very viable option to the Canon 10-22 ultra wide angle for a lot less money. The build quality is excellent, the image quality rivals Canon's pro series lenses, and it goes very wide.

Very good lens....period.I purchased this lens in preparation of a trip to Bosque del Apache NWR in New Mexico. I was immediately impressed with the high level of contract and saturation. I own 3 Canon L type lenses, and this Tokina matches them in this respect. As it turned out, the lens provided too wide an angle to be of much use at Bosque. I ended up using my Canon 17-85mm for the morning fly outs. But I would highly recommend this lens to anyone needing a really wide angle lens. This is the original version, not the generation II version.
