Nearly as good as 12-24 Nikon f/4 AFS

Fast AF, MF-AF switching on the lens MF ring is nice, MF is smooth, optically nearly the same as Nikon 12-24 (I have made various tests comparing it with my friends Nikon), corners soft at 12mm f/4, starts to be very good from f/5.6. Optical quality at closest focussing ranges are excellent when stopped down, body is sturdy, lens feels excellent in your hands, outer coatings are superb, lens is relatively small for its range and feels very well balanced with Nikon D200. Distortion is somehow noticable at 12mm (barrel) but the distortion of Nikon 12-24mm is no different than this one. For the price this lens is excellent.

One of my all time favorites

Thia is the only non-Nikkor lens I own but certainly one of my all time favorites. The optical qulity is equal(or better)to the Nikon 12-24mm , the build quality is far better and the price tag much lower. You have to love this one!
Beware of vignetting especially when using a flash.

  Tokina 12-24 f/4 DX

Read some reviews about Tokina's new 12-24mm lens compared to others and Tokina came out on top just under the Nikon equivalent at a much lower price. I've had the lens about 75 days, use almost daily and it performs very well, no complaints.

This lens is a winner! It focuses fast and takes a crisp picture. I am having a great time using it for landscapes and "creative" close-ups. It has a nice solid feel.

I highly recommend it!

This is a great lens and a great value. Can't beat the combination. I am very happy I got it and I have been taking a lot of photographs with it. It's great for landscapes (of course) but also for creative prortraits.

Sharp lens at lower price than nikon brand

I am very satisfied with the image taken with this lens. Using regular UV filter will not give you vignette, but if you are using 2 filter, UV+polarize then you will see vignette even at smallest aperture at 12mm.
for sharpness this lens is a bargain, if you are not brand minded this lens will give the same result as the nikon version at half price! fix aperture also help a lot in dim situation. I wish the sharpness at f/22 is as good as f/4, but its all true with all lens

A terrific lens for the money

I bought this lens second-hand from an eBay seller. I am extremely pleased with the lens. It does have some optical distortion, but this is easily corrected in Photoshop.

My only disappointment with this lens is the focusing. It does not have an internal motor, so the focus mechanism is driven by the motor in the camera. When it hunts for focus, it racks back and forth from close focus to infinity. The lens would be excellent if it had an internal focus motor.

Nevertheless, when I bought the lens I knew it did not have an internal motor, so I am 100% pleased with the lens for the price that I paid.

  Excellent Lens
Review created: 08/03/09

Very well made. Fast, and very sharp. Most of my work is with big glass but I am having a lot of fun with this wide zoom. I use it on a D300 and it is excellent. Not too heavy or bulky, just right and the best thing is the price. All the reviews I had read on this lens were excellent and I am impressed. This is my first Tokina lens and I may be looking for others in the future. You will not be dissapointed with this lens.

The best lens I've ever bought! I shoot mostly architecture and landscape photos... It's perfect for these! Sharp and better price than the Nikon equivalent focal length.

Tokina AT-X 124 PRO DX II for Nikon
Review created: 03/04/09

Based on a review from Ken Rockwell I purchased this Tokina AT-X 124 lens and it did not disappoint. I like the build quality and the picture quality. If you can afford it then go for the Nikon 12-24mm if you want to save a few bucks and still take a great picture then this one will work just fine.

For a non-pro like me, shots look fantastic. Build quality is good compared to anything I've seen. Really fun to use. Get one.

Tokina AT-X 124 Pro DX II

This lens takes beautiful landscape photos. It's wide and heavy, so you'll want to make sure that you have enough room in your bag for it. It adapted perfectly to my Nikon D50 digital.

  Great Lens

Sturdy build. Sharp focus. I have not been able to compare this to the equivalent Nikon model, but for half the price I don't think I have to. The photos I take remain digital for viewing so photo perfect printing is not an issue. Get one, you will not regret it.

  Tokina 12-24mm ROCKS!
Review created: 02/04/08
by:

the f4 makes it a very good lens in most light and I love the shots I'm getting with this lens.

I was going to write that this was a great lens for the money. I cant do that... because...

After comparing it with a Nikon 12-24 I have to say this lens is as good as or better than the twice as costly nikon lens. This is a great lens and would be even at twice the price!

  Excellent lens
Review created: 01/31/08

After changing to a DSLR, I needed a wider lens to achieve a 18mm equivalent. After lots of research, I settled on this lens. I am pleased with the finish and feel of this lens. It is a very solid build and the constant F/4 is a great plus. The pictures I've taken are very sharp with good contrast. Highly recommended.
