It was everything I wanted in a 3 wood. I can hit it any way I want to, but it is easiest to hit it straight. Best 3 wood I have ever played. It will stay in the bag for a long time.

July 1, 2006

The owner of this LH Titleist 904F Fairway wood with a Fujikura Speeder X-stiff flex shaft said that he was selling it becuase the shaft wasn't stiff enough!
Any true golfer would have to wonder what his swing and strength was like.

The club was virtually like new with the usual Titleist quality of craftsmanship; the sale price was quite low, probably because of the X-stiff shaft.

I'm an avid senior golfer who some time ago moved from stiff flex shafts to regular. I bought this club, planning on replacing the shaft myself (quite possibly with a shaft bought on ebay.)

I couldn't resist trying the club out first, however, swinging the club off the tee more slowly and smoothly than usual because of its heavy weight.

To my amazement, I hit it longer than most of my drives, and continue to do so.

My using this club at all would go against any golf teacher's recommendations.
There must be a moral to this, but I'm not quite sure yet what it is.

This may well be one of the best items that I've found on ebay so far, and I wasn't even expecting it.

  A Forgiving Players Club?

I bought this club out of curiosity. I knew what I was getting into with the YS-6 shaft(excellent shaft, great combination of feel, distance and control). As we all know Titleist clubs has never been known for forgiviness but this one will suprise you. It has a nice high ball flight with great accuracy and great workability. This club is the very definition of a utility wood. It can do it all. As far as bad shots, I caught it on the toe a few times and the punishment was minimal, it held the line and there was a very small amount of disatance lost. Not too shabby out of the rough either. I took out my 2i heavenwood out of the bag and this one goes in to stay AND I just bought a 3 wood to match!

  Solid Fairway Wood

A very solid, easy to hit fairway wood. I'vw been playing competitive golf for about ten years, and wish I would have had this one a long time ago. Easy to hit off the tee (17* 4-wood) and great for the fairway. Great overall club.

The 904F's are the perfect fairway wood for a low to lower-mid handicapper. You can actually feel the head instead of the shaft and with a slow, smooth tempo these clubs perform like a fairway wood should. Expect a slight draw and go with it. I'm able to hit a slight fade also when the shot calls for it with only a slight modification in my set up. DON'T buy this club if you have trouble hitting a smaller headed club. It's intended to provide optimum results not forgiveness. I use the 17 degree off some tees and get great distance and position without having to rip the ball. The YS-6 is a great shaft to match up with these clubs .

OK, by way of full disclosure, I am hardly a great golfer. I'm about a 15 handicap, somewhere in between a decent player and a hacker. I swing the club very hard and have a tendency to lose the ball right, although my biggest problem is probably my short game.

Anyway, I just got the 904 f in a 15 degree, regular shaft for a good price and put it in the bag, really just to try it out. I didn't know whether or not I'd like it -- I had heard that Titleists were great but meant for low handicappers, so I didn't know whether or not I'd be good enough to hit it.

The first time I took it out of the bag and teed it up, I hit a terrible, wild hook that sailed out of bounds. A few holes later, I tried it out again off the tee -- same thing. The final attempt with it that round off the tee was a very high hook that thankfully stayed in play but didn't go far at all. Clearly, it was a very disappointing start, and I thought that maybe the Titleist was too difficult for me.

The next day, I went to the range after having read online in a few places that the club has a strong draw bias and a tendency to go left if you're not careful about opening up the face a bit. Well, my first 10 hacks or so on the range also stunk. I wasn't teeing it up, just hitting them off the deck, and I couldn't get the ball off the ground. And just as I was about to give up on the club and sell it to a friend, I took one last hack with it and... it was the best golf shot I've ever hit in my life. Beautiful, high draw, 260 yards in the air, soft landing. And the best part about the club is that it feels so good when you make clean contact. I can't even begin to describe the feeling. It's pure bliss. No clunkiness or loud annoying sound; just a smooth click; it is just perfect in a way that Callaway-users could never begin to understand.

After that hit, I started smoking the ball every time, save a few mishits every now and then. It is important to open the face up a little bit and swing in a way that will promote the draw and basically go with the club. I'd say my usual swing is more over the top, but with this club, I had to swing a little less over the top in order to catch the ball clean.

The club is really an all-or-nothing club; don't look for any forgiveness out of it; if you don't hit it clean, it won't go anywhere. But once you get used to the club, you'll be willing to sacrifice a few ground balls for the pure, sweet bombs that you'll be hitting most of the time. Even if you're a mid handicapper and think you're not good enough for the Titleist, at least try it out and take 30 swings with it or so. I'd say that as long as you're the type of player that has the ability to get the ball airborne easily and hit it high and far (even if you're not always straight or consistent).

  904f Fairway Woods

I have been and probaly will always have Titleist woods in my bag. But one thing that alot of people don't know about is the bore through hosel. I found out from Titliest that if you play a stiff shaft order a regular shaft and have that put in. Because of the extra 1/2 inch of shaft in the hosel,it will make that regular play more like a stiff. Ever since i learned that my driver and fairway woods have preformed a lt better. Just some food for thought.

  904F Fairway wood 15/19 degree 8 handicap

I can tell you the 19 degree is a better club for me as oppose to the 19 degree rescue mid I was playing. It's 20 to 30 yards longer with no noticeable difficulty in the shot. Shots off the 904f's are easily workable and not as far left as with the previous generation of Titleist fairway woods (980f). Realistically I'm planning to have these clubs in my bag for 2-3 years before I upgrade them so for me they are a good value.

  What a find!

It's funny that someone like me who's bought over 2000 clubs in the past couple of years (ebay buyer / seller / junkie), had never hit a 904F fairway wood until a couple of weeks ago. Before that, I'd bought and sold them, but never hit one. Boy, what a mistake. Over Christmas, I went to Pinehurst and threw together a set of my favorite irons (TM Ti Bubble 2's) and my favorite driver (Titleist 905S). And, just for the heck of it, I threw in a 904F 3 wood and 5 wood. I hadnt played in a couple of months and didn't hit any balls before teeing off, so my swing for a few holes was FAR from perfect. Finally, I got to a par 5 with a fairly wide open landing area for the 2nd shot. At my age (60) and with my 'bulk' (5'10" - 160#) I very seldom reach par 5's in 2 and I certainly wasn't expecting to here. I had a nice lie in the fairway and was approx. 250 yds. from the green. The hole was a dogleg right with tall trees at the corner of the leg, so the 'smart play' for me was to hit an unobstructed 7 iron up the fairway to about 100 yds away. But, just for the heck of it, I decided to try the 5 wd. and go over the trees that were about 125 yds. in front of me. Note: this was the very first time for me to hit a 904F in my life - so my expectations were rather low. Well, somehow I made a good swing, made good contact and watched the ball clear the treetops by about 10', but I then lost sight of it. Naturally, because of the distance I wasn't expecting to hit the green, but since I'd caught it good I figured I'd be within 25 yards of the green. But, when I drove up to hit my 3rd shot, my ball wasn't anywhere near where I thought it would be. So, after looking around for about 5 minutes, I dropped another ball, skulled it over the green and drove back to it. And, guess what, there was my 'real' ball sitting beside my 'dropped' ball. Amazing. I'd hit the 'real' ball approx. 225 on the fly with a 5 WOOD - which was about 35 yds. further than my normal 5 wood shot goes. That's when I decided I'd just found my newest best friend.
The 3 & 5 wood are now in my bag to stay. I love them. I love their head design (small) and their solid feel I get when I pure one. I also love the sound they make on a pure hit. But, unlike several of the other reviewer's who commented on these clubs, I find them to be fairly forgiving. I also love the weight of the clubs. They're not 'heavy', but they're heavy enough that I can feel the clubhead throughout the swing - which allows me to simply let it 'fall' into the slot rather than swinging it there without knowing where the clubhead is.
For what it's worth, I also love the Graphite Design YS-6 shaft and the flight is promotes. Not too high and not too low. So, between the solid head, the swingweight and the shaft, this is as sweet a fairway wood as I've even owned (and I've owned most of them). Finally, now that these have been replaced by the 906's (club makers are SO stupid in the way they do business), the price of these are now extremely reasonable (around $50 ea. on ebay). So, anyone who wants a super high quality, high performing affordable set of fairway woods that should last forever should pick up 2-3 of these and never look back.

  904f over 906f
Review created: 09/29/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I've had a 17 degree 904f w/YS6+fw stiff in my bag for two years now. Last year I purchased the 585h 21 w/ YS6+hybrid stiff and 906f2 13 w UST V2 R flex. I still have the hybrid but didn't like the 906f with the UST V2. I dumped it and purchased a new 904f 13 with the YS6+stiff shaft. Maybe its the shafts but I love the 904f. One has to realize, the only technology that has really changed is titanium and driver head size. All the little modifications to soles, weighting etc. really only change your shot a few yards, and for most of us bogey golfers who are happy with 1 or 2 birdies a round, you don't notice the difference. I prefer the 904f over the 906f2 and although I haven't demo'd the 906f4, I don't think the shallow face will fit my swing, which is steeper than average I believe. I've never had a problem fading the 904f but do sometimes draw or hook by accident. I love the feel and the sound of the 904f. Try to get one before they disappear. The 17 is amazing off the tee or fairway.

I LIKED THE LOOK OF THE CLUB AND FEEL (GRAPHITE R/FLEX). CLUB IS A JOY TO HIT WHEN YOU ARE DEAD ON. NOT VERY FORGIVING WITH MIS HITS, BUT YOU CAN SHAPE THE BALL WITH THIS CLUB. DEFINITELY NOT A HIGH HANDICAPPER CLUB.

Best Fairway wood I have ever used. I hit this club on the range after seeing a friend use it with great success on the course. Great feel and trajectory so I bought the 17 degree 4-wood as well as the 15 degree 3-wood. I could not be more pleased. I hit these clubs off the tee on short par 4's and hit a 255 yard fairway shot on a par 5 this past weekend for an eagle. I never could have done that with other fairway woods. Get the correct shaft based upon your swing. The greatest club in the world will not help you if you have the wrong shaft based on your swing type.

  Big Hits With Small Heads!!

Getting back into golf after my last back surgery I noticed my fairway woods were getting me less distance. Not being able to go at the ball like I used to it was suggested to me to go to a regular shaft. After going to many golf shops locally I fell in love with the "small headed" 904f fairway woods. The combination of these eye appealing small heads matched with Graphite Design YS-6 shafts are just what the doctor ordered. The ball jumps off the face of these woods without me using any effort.I purchased a 19* five wood initially and my distance has been consistently
200 plus yards.I was so thrilled with the 19* that I also added the 15 & 22 degree
woods to my bag. These woods have been replaced with the 906F fairway woods. Why?
I have no idea. The 904 is one of the finest clubs I have ever swung.

  Titleist 904F 19* Fairway Wood

This fairway wood is easily the longest and easiest to hit 5 wood I have ever used. This club is super long and high off the tee and very similar off the fairway or out of the rough. I decided to buy the club because I already had a 904F 15* and it played great so I thought the 5 wood would play good as well. I don't regret it and can't wait to play with the club again. It is pure fun to crush the ball with this club.

This is one of the most solid heads that titleist has created. The small profile of the head and the player type workablility allows you to control ball direction and flight. I had one before and let someone borrow it and felt it was time to get it back.

A classic Titleist--solid sound, solid perofrmance
Review created: 08/28/09
by:

I have been going "old" school with the woods (drive and fairways), because I like hitting a smaller head. I already had the the 980F 5 wood and was considering getting a 15 degree 3 wood to match. while I liked the 980 out of the rough and off the fairway, I didn't like the right to left ball flight off the tee (partly the Indian and not the arrow, due to a grip change that exaggerated my draw).

So I did a little research and considered what I was usually hitting to get home in two, or to work a tight fairway, and settled on the 904F because the 904 is relatively wider along the bottom of the face, which I found to be more forgiving than the narrower 980F yet a tall enough face to be a great option off the tee on tight par 4s when I want to play for position.

Quite simply, I am murdering the ball and as much as I

I never thought I'd find something as satisfying and responsive as my TM R7 TPs (I've got the 15 deg and 17.5), but I'd have to say that the 904F is an absolute joy to hit.
