Titleist Vokey Spin Milled Wedge Golf Club

For those of you who put credence in a persons opinion based upon their golfing ability, my handicap is a 2. I am also a collector of golf clubs, especially the older Wilson forged blade models. I tend to be a traditionalist when it comes to club design, preferring the smaller compact blades to the robust designs of today. Setting a Wilson blade behind the ball, gives me a feeling of exactness and forces me to really focus on the shot at hand. But this is a review on Vokey wedges isn't it? Precisely! I compare today's Vokey wedges to the same style of wedge that Bob Mendralla designed for Wilson for the last 50+ years. Bob Vokey has really fine tuned the traditional design, giving the golfer a real sense of confidence when placing the wedge behind the ball. My own personal experience has been nothing short of amazing. I've changed nothing in my club set except for the wedges. I use a Vokey 248-06 Tour Chrome in place of my regular Pitching Wedge, a 252-08 Tour Chrome as a Gap Wedge, a Spin Milled Oil Can 256-10 for my Sand Wedge and a Spin Milled 260-04 for my Lob Wedge. What I have experienced is improved accuracy and distance control over my short game. When you think about it, what else is there when it comes to your short game? My scores have decreased as well, dropping from a 6 handicap at the beginning of the year to a 2 handicap now. I can't say I've really noticed a huge difference in increased backspin between the regular Tour Chrome and the Spin Milled wedges, but I think that has as much to do with the ball as it does the club. Both wedges seem to hold the green equally well for me. What I have noticed is a better feel for the short shots. Maybe some of that is mental, I don't know. But for several rounds now, I can't wait to get my hands on a Vokey wedge because I know I can 'get it close' and save strokes. Cleveland may advertise they are the #1 wedge on tour but from what I've seen this year on the Pro Tour, more of the tournament winners are playing Vokey wedges just like Geoff Olgilvie at the U.S. Open. The wedges sit well behind the ball, they have a very clean appearance, Titleist offers them in several lofts and bounces so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to find one that works for you. By the way, I prefer the lower bounce models because I get a better sense of control and workability, able to 'clip' the ball off hard pan, than with the higher bounce wedges. They've been on Golf Digest's Hot List for several years running.

Previously, I had a 56 degree Vokey Spin Milled Wedge and liked it. I decided to buy a 54 degree because I often need a little more distance. These wedges seem to spin more and hold the green better than the other wedges that I've used. The Vokey Spin Milled wedges feel lighter to me too which I also like.

After much research I decided to buy my first Titleist Vokey Wedge. I have to admit, I was very skeptical about the hype before I purchased. Well I am here to assure you it is not hype. This wedge is serious. I have never been able to hit and stick balls with such accuracy from 100 yards and in. It is well worth the investment.

If you are looking to spin the ball inside 100 yards, this is the club for you. The precision milled grooves on this Vokey obtain 30% more grip on the ball than that of a regular Vokey design wedge. Be careful though, as the wedge does tend to cut softer balls like the Pro V1 and Callaway i series quite often when the wedge is still Brand New. If you have a high swing speed, this club can cost you some $$$ when it comes to having to buy new balls all the time.

I bought it because it look good and is a good wedge that in good condition. I like it very much. The wedge desription was very true and I would buy again if the seller decsription and rating is good.

i like the club a lot. my previous wedge was a mizuno raw haze of the same degree and bounce. the titleist seems a lot more solid. i don't have any of those unexplainable weak pop-ups that land 20 yard short of target. could it be my swing? sure. but it seems my game has improved a bit since starting to use this club. the thing i'm trying to get used to now is that i can actually hit low wedge shots that bounce once then check. i could not do this with the mizunos.

Very happy with the club it has nice feel to it.It gets under the ball really easy and I use it as a sand wedge as well.

I won a 60 degree spin milled Vokey in a tournament and liked it so well I immediately went to Ebay to find the matching 54 degree. Saved around 35% on Ebay compared to new sporting good store price.
About the club, if you really want to control distance, be able to play those short troublesome shot from those tight lies, then this is your club. Fair warning, they put alot of spin on the ball so be ready to fly it to the cup, the ball is not going far after it lands.

I already own a Titletist Vokey 60 degree wedge and it is one of my favorite clubs in my bag...to hit the "Flop" shots needed sometimes around the green, it is unparrelled...Can't wait to try my new addition form 60 to 70 yards out...should be fun...I highly recommend any of Titlest"s wedges

has good distance control, and is one of the best wedges on the market.

I bought this because of the low bounce on the sole, and to replace my 60* wedge with worn grooves. The spin milled face of these Vokeys definitely impart more spin than clubs like Clevelands, etc. I put the club into use right after I put a new grip on it, and it worked as I had hoped. Now I just have to get used to flying the ball past the stick!!

I bought this club last year and it has done wonders for my golf game. Easy to put spin on the ball and the ball comes of the club head very well. Worth having in any golf bag.

great club, i like the oil can better than the satin chrome, but the best vokey finish was the true chrome of the previous generation

Wow what a difference the Vokey wedges have made to my short game!
I bought a new 60 degree and loved it and immediatly started shopping for a Sand wedge mate for it on eBay. I'd been using my Ping G5 SW-LW-GW, which matched the rest of my irons and always felt it was better to have the entire set that matched your other irons. Of course I had gotten used to my Ping wedges, but always had to allow for run on the greens especially on short shots under 30 yards. Both Vokey wedges do not run across the green after chipping up and I've had to start throwing the ball right at the stick, it seems like the ball has velcro on it!
So if your not happy with your short game I'd sure recommend trying a Vokey "Spin Milled" wedge or two.

This club is the one used by shortgame guru Stan Utley. I bought it on his recommendation and found it to be invaluable around the greens. It puts tremendous spin on the ball when you hit a "pinch shot" yet can be lofted high and soft when you use the 14 degree bounce on the sole. Get this club, a 52*- and a 47*-wedge and you're set!

I like the classic look of face. Bites hard, but is very heavy and not as versatile as I would like. I'll stick with my Cleveland 900 unchromed 58* low bounce wedge.
