Wedges are much like putters, how you feel about them matters a lot. The way they look, feel, line up and even the reputation of the club plays a role in how comfortable you feel with them.

Well, this one certainly has the reputation factor working for it. It's been around for ages, "every" pro plays them, and they cost way too much money. It's classic, (read old), design has been done by dozens of other manufacturers and some have done it better for less money.
That said, I own three of these.

I play two main wedge setups with different degrees of loft and bounce to allow for a multitude of conditions that totals seven different wedges. That is, to me anyway, a good chunk of change if all were Titleists. I found a cheaper wedge that is completely interchangeable with the 200 series; the Ben Hogan Riviera. If you take the logos off you can't tell the difference as they deliver exactly the same flight path and feel. How much are they? I paid fifty a piece for the Rivieras, over a hundred for the Titleists.
Note: The Riviera does not come in as many variations as the 200 series, so you may, (as I had to), bite the bullet and complete your wedge setups with some 200 series.

The 200 series are fine clubs, they don't give you much margin for error, they require a pretty good swing to deliver peak performance and the narrow sole and somewhat unforgiving bounce angles work well for shot control in the hands of a good player. Then again, wedges like the new Taylormade Rac Black TP does all of this and more, while being significantly more forgiving, they make the 200 series feel dated.

By the way: If you are shopping for this kind of wedge, you are probably not looking for a game improvement wedge, but if you are, do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Not much assistance on off center hits to be found here.

In summary, they are simply not the best wedges out there, but they are priced like they should be. New designs and materials have surpassed the 200 series. It still works well, just not as good as some of the competition.

  It's about control

It's about control. This series gives this to the mid and high index players. A traditional look and fell wil make you confident while standing over the most difficult shots. Well balanced and capible of multi tasking from rough to sand. well worth the investment.

About Intelligent Design Series Wedges

What is The Intelligent Design Series Wedge Treatment?

The Intelligent Design Series Wedge starts life as a lightly used wedge. The first step in the finishing process is to strip the heads of the old chrome. Then, "U" (also know as “Square” or "box") grooves are cut into the face of the wedge. These grooves are cut precisely to the full USGA legal depth and width. It's important to note that many Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) do not cut grooves to the full legal depth at the factory. This is one example of how Intelligent Design Series Wedges are superior to the wedges available in the typical golf shops. After the grooves are completed, we then drill (port) 6 holes in the back of the club muscle, raising the center of gravity. This moves the sweet spot to the center of the club, just where it should be, giving your ball a lower more penetrating flight with a piercing trajectory and adding more control. Then, the head is polished and, any small dings or dents are removed. The next step in the process is the application of a layer of copper. The copper layer is applied beneath the chrome for added weight and, since copper is a softer material than chrome, to produce a slightly softer feel to the club. Then, the new chrome is applied and the club head is buffed to our proprietary Tour Satin Finish. Finally, the face of the club is sand blasted to provide texture and additional "bite".

Intelligent Design Series Wedge Treatment Advantages

Intelligent Design Series wedges are superior to anything on the market. Our Tour Satin Chrome finish is not susceptible to the bubbling, cracking, chipping, and peeling found with typical nickel chrome. These wedges are more durable than factory wedges while providing a softer feel. Intelligent Design Series Tour Satin Chrome wedges combine the best features of chrome, raw, oil-can, and gun metal finished wedges. Intelligent Design Series Tour Satin Chrome wedges provide reduced glare while providing a softer feel and the outstanding durability of chrome. This Satin Chrome Finish will not rust until the chrome wears off. Since The Intelligent Design Series Tour Satin Chrome is more durable than the cheaper nickel chrome, you can look forward to a long, long life without rust. Perhaps most importantly, Intelligent Design Series Tour Satin Chrome Wedges produce significantly more spin than standard factory wedges, especially from the rough. Many OEM clubs have "V" grooves which are cast into the face of the wedge. Intelligent Design Series wedges have "U" grooves that are cut to the full USGA legal depth and width.

I was ver well satisified with my transaction from ebay. I wasn't too happy about the quality of one of the clubs as I purchased 3 wedges..... The picture displayed on ebay was quite deceiving. The club was positioned in such a way as to no show the groves on the face of the club which were quite worn. If the seller was honest enough to show this picture it would have presented the club in a more accurate description. This probably wasn't done to the seller trying to get as much money for the club as possible. I did leave a positive feed back, but truly was unhappy with that purchase. I don't want degetative feedback as a buyer I pay right away and expect a positive feed back. Friends of mine have had terrible experiences with sellers misrepresenting products or not receiving them at all. It's a shame when sellers don't have integrity and don't present their product as shown. This is my only disapointing experience on ebay otherwise I've been very sastified with all the sellers. It's been a great experience !

Don't let the name scare you away. The Titlest clubs, especially the wedges are an excellent choice for even the beginner. I own 4 of them. They are easy to put the ball exactly where you want it and also easy to control the spin. Thet are a very well balanced club.

Titleist Vokey 200 Series Chrome Wedges

These wedges are simply awesome. I not only love the way they look but also how they perform. I have played the Titleist spin milled wedge along with many Cleveland wedges in the past. While I liked the way the spin milled wedges seem to grab the ball more, I think that they wear out more quickly than the 200 series. Cleveland has some great wedges as well but the feel I like is just not there. You can't go wrong with the 200 series wedge. It has the look and feel that is perfect for anyboby's game.

decided to buy this club because it was a hole in my club selection. I played with it just once and i haven't regretted the purchase in the slightest. I like the heaviness and the backspin it has added to my play around the green it awesome. a must have.

  Fantastic Wedge
Review created: 11/07/06

If you are looking for a great all-around wedge, the Vokey series should be at the top of your list. The 200 series clubs perform well around the greens. They play beautifully from the sand if you get the proper bounce for your bunker conditions. You can easily and consistently control spin on full swing shots and pitch shots. I have tried several comparable wedges, including the Cleveland 588 and the KZG 9500. Both are fine clubs, but somehow don't match the Vokey in feel and consistency.

Only drawback is that the head might be too heavy for certain players. It's really personal preference.

Great wedge. Great price here on EBay (between $10 and $40 depending on condition). No reason not to try it out.

  Good wedge solid wedge!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried this club at demo day at my local club. I loved it, but the problem was they wanted 70 bucks for it, so I came to ebay and I hope I can pick it up for 40 bucks. The club was very easy to hit, and the feel was like no other wedge I have hit! This is a perfect club for anyone who wants to improve their short game!

Really sets up well and you feel very confident that you will strike the ball solid. It is probably the best wedge that I have ever used and I have used many.

  Vokeys are the clubs
Review created: 07/19/07

People who say other manufacturers can duplicate / improve upon Vokey design must be 40 handicappers. Lower-priced versions, or worse yet - knock-offs - can't begin to compare with the balanced feel Vokeys provide. I've tried some and know the difference. I have 3 Vokeys in my bag. Taylor Made or Nike or Cleveland likely also make effective wedges, but they won't be much cheaper. And as for "game improvement," most golfers agree that from the 8 or 9 iron through to the wedges, the design is pretty much the same for the 2 handicapper or the 20 handicapper. It's in the longer irons (7 through 3) that you need cavity back, etc. Buy Vokeys if you want to improve your short game.

Nice well balanced club. Not great at getting out of the sand traps, but maybe I just need to get used to it. I don't seem to get the same distance out of it as I do with my cleveland SW. I do like the feel and weight, and I'm not unhappy with the club.

  Titleist Vokey Wedge
Review created: 10/02/08
by:

The item shipped very fast and was agreat price so I had to buy it. The one downside that I had was that the seller said it was brand new, there was some rust in the grooves of the clubface. I didn't have time to send it back, do to a golf outing that I had to play in. In the feedback that I left him I mentioned the rust and he wasn't to happy about it. It really was no big deal, I just wanted to let him know about it. Other than that it was a great buy and a great seller who I'd buy from agagin!
