The Wonderful World of Napa - Nothing Like it
Review created: 10/05/09(updated 11/01/09)

I have been chasing after this putter for about 12 years now...it just seemed way out of my reach for a long time. But, I finally got one and in a fantastic condition for a great price for my 50th B-day.
The first thing on my list, was to shop around for a well made generic looking-cheesy head cover. I didn't want to advertise for the fear of that one individual that is too weak in the face of temptation.
Pictures of this putter is one thing...to have one in your hands is another.
This is a Blade Lover's Dream come true. A classic all on it's own...and for those who can understand the emotion that comes along with owning one of these, there is nothing like it that gets the heart beating like the Napa.
The Negatives of owning a Napa (Gunmetal Finish) - You will need to provide maintenance in order for you to upkeep the condition. This is very much like taking care of your teeth. Your not going to notice a problem until there is signs of decay...the same with this finish...so, the best thing to do is to upkeep the preventive care in the first place is the best solution.
I have decided to go with liquid silicone as my means to prevent the outer elements from getting in. The silicone layer adds a skin to prevent fine scratches that may occur in daily usage esp. the head cover coming off & on. I heard oil tends to hold onto dirt esp. dusty conditions. However, the consistent striking in the sweet spot will remove the silicone and leave the area exposed to the elements.
The Grip - I decided to change the grip to a Winn & I'm glad that I did. Having an original grip was nice to maintain the value, but, I purchased this to be used and the grip is so well made, makes all the difference in the world.
The Consistency - The learning curve is very short in time span to be one with this putter. If you like you back swing to be compact to no more than 8" you will love the distance ability of this putter.
Your going to attract a little bit of attention on the practice greens let alone during a round. So, be prepared to be judged by the way you putt.
The Positives - The milled face will not take anything away from the "touch to the soul" feel upon impact. Since, golf ball materials & the emphases on feel seems to change from year to year, I thought that this would be a concern.
My previous putter (Cleveland Form Forged III Milled) allowed different makes of balls to feel somewhat the same off the face. The Napa however, you will know a very distinct difference in each model of golf ball.
So, being able to play a specific ball model will be very critical during your walk on this journey. I am currently playing with NXT Tour and it responds very well.
Thank goodness there is no site line to tell you to "hit here"...the sweetspot is where you choose. The ability to line up the putter to your target still is based on your skill & there is nothing to distract you visually. I prefer the inner center of the face as a comfort location and the consistency & learning curve is very accommodating.
Smooth short strokes will reap rewards from the 20-25ft putts.
You can miss a 2ft putt with a $10 putter, and the same with a $400 putter...it just hurts more w/the latter. But in the end, you still get to take the princess home & all is forgotten & all is good.
Find your putter that you always wanted & make that dream come true cus, life is too short to just chase.
