905R - Best Titleist Driver Ever
Review created: 10/05/06

I've played Titlesit drivers for several years, with the exception of a Cleveland Launcher 460 I bought last year. I did not like the ball flight of Launcher (way too high), so my Titleist 475J-VS went back into my bag. I had no desire to try another 460cc driver. However, after reading many positive reviews on the 905R, I decided to give it a try.
I bought a 905R 9.5 with the YS-6+ shaft on eBay about 3 weeks ago. My previous experience with upgrading to the next generation of Titlesist driver was somewhat underwhelming because the difference was not that dramatic and justification for the amount of money spent was difficult. This is definitely not the case with the 905R. The day I got it, I went to my course and used it to tee off on the first hole. My first thought when I saw my ball keep going and going was "Who hit that ball?" The difference between my previous Titleist driver and the 905R is amazing and well worth the cost. I've never felt better about paying as much for something that I probably didn't need. The ball flight seems to be perfect for me; it bores into the wind very well and seems to get pretty decent roll. It's longer than any other driver I've hit and amazingly straight, even with a marginal swing. Even though the distance suffers from a mishit, the ball usually ends up pretty close to the intended line.
Unlike previous Titlest drivers, I think the 905R would be a good fit for most average golfers. The forgiveness is unbelievable and it really sets up nice at address. Even though the head is 460cc's, it doesn't look out of proportion as do some of the 460cc drivers. Every golfer is a little different and the equipment we use is definitely not a "one size fits all". The 905R seems to be a perfect fit for me and will stay in my bag for a long long time.

How to detet and avoid a fake Titleist 905R Driver
Review created: 11/14/08

If you hate the scams and fraud on Ebay like I do please give a ''Yes'' vote to this review at the bottom of the page. Your vote will help others to see this guide and avoid getting ripped off.

I found several "Buy Now" deals for as little as $250.00. There were even people selling heads only for less than $200.00.

Most if not all of the auctions with heads only were from China or Hong Kong. The sellers had a mixture of feedback with 1 or 2 out of 10 negative due to fake driver. The sellers usually do not have a great number of feedbacks.

The selling method has changed somewhat lately with the fakes being sold by users registered in the USA but still heads only. The other problem now is there have been hundreds if not thousands of fake drivers sold to USA buyers. These buyers are now selling the fakes once they find out. Here is a list of what to look for and how to avoid being sold a fake.

1. Avoid auctions from China and Hong Kong.
2. Avoid any auction for driver head only.
3. Check sellers other items for sale. If they are selling only Titleist drivers avoid this seller.
4. Ask seller to provide the serial number. If they do not respond avoid the seller. If they provide a serial number you can email Titleist customer service and ask if the serial number is legit. Also ask if the serial number has been registered already.
5. Don't be fooled by pictures. The pictures on a fraud auction will not be the driver they are sending.
6. Avoid sellers that are new to Ebay or have really less than 100 + feedbacks selling golf equipment.
7. Avoid any auction for a driver listed in a non golf category. They use this tactic to avoid Ebay dumping the auction.
8. Avoid any 1 day auction with a "Buy Now".

A few of ways to detect the fakes are:

1. The composite top is actually not composite at all. It is paint in a weave pattern to look like a carbon fiber top.
2. No serial number on the hosel.
3. Thin spray painted finish instead of powder coated.

I avoided a fake Driver from a USA seller when I asked for the serial number. I had already won the auction. The seller sent me an email after the auction claiming the driver was damaged. I am sure it was someone trying to unload the mistake on me. Hopefully this may help someone from buying a fake driver as well.

  Best driver out there!!

All I have to say is WOW! I have been known as a long hitter before, but this club is amazing and very easy to hit straight. I was using a Wilson Deep Red driver with a pro-lite graphite shaft. Which I broke the head right off after a years use. I could easily hit 320 yards with that club. But this one blows anything I have ever tried right off the course! I just won two out of two longest driver holes , at a golf tournament at our local course. I easily cleared 360 yards (which was GPS'ed for accuracy), I could not believe it. Just try it for yourselves and you'll love it!!! The club I have is the 905R 10.5 deg. with the Aldila NV65-S shaft. Which I used as a demo, but purchased right after 18 holes!!!

I've been hitting drivers for 35 years and recently went to the Titleist 905R. Some of my friends had the idea Titleist drivers are hard to hit. This driver is the most consistent club off the tee I've ever had. It's workable and it's plenty long. I went with a regular flex although I have a swing speed of 110+. I can really feel the head throughout the shot. My handicap dropped from 8 to 6 within a month of buying this driver! If it's a Titleist, it's good stuff.

  905R review 12/2/06

I am an average golfer, and I haven't played much in the past 4 months due to being on scholarship for football. However, when I went to Golf Galaxy to replace my Ping G5 which had a broken bering in it, I had no idea which club I wanted. I tried out pretty much every club I could. I noticed no difference from my G5 to the new Ping Rapture. The TaylorMade series was just average and I was getting pretty turned off honestly. I hadn't even considered a Titlest driver, but our long driver on the team does play a Titlest 905. Well, the pro who was helping me tapped one up and told me to hit this club. It was the 905R and it was the first club I have hit that I can tell a noticable differance in. The ball seemed to explode off the face and it sent this power sensation up my forearms. I don't really know how else to explain it, but I went from carrying 270 to about 285 with this club. It took about 3 swings for me to decide this was the club I wanted, though I kept swinging for a while...the machine there is awesome to play with. Anyways, this club is the absolute best driver I have ever hit. If you can't really tell a difference between how most clubs hit and don't see any added benifits of a new club to yours except to say it's new...demo this 905R. Mine has the YS-6+ stiff shaft. I was fitted for my swing speed for the shaft after I picked my club out.

905R One of the best Drivers out there!

The 905R is a traditional shaped 460cc Driver. For me this driver set's up well, looks good and gives me the performance I need. You can shape this driver left or right, high or low unlike most other 460cc driver's. It delivers a nice sound when hit and is above average in distance. It is a very forgiving driver when you mishit it. You really need to match up the shaft that will work best for you. Personally, the Graphite Design GSY-6 works well for me. To be short and sweet, if you're looking for a 460cc Driver that you can pick up for a great value that looks good, performs good, gives you better than avg. distance and good accuracy then this is the club for you. I have tried them all and I am now a Titleist man.

Titleist 905R with YS-6 stiff shaft: one great driver
Review created: 07/04/07
by:
6 of 6 people found this review helpful.

I have used a Titleist 975 JVS 9.5 with a stiff Speeder shaft for 4 years and it's been the best for me ever. But there are some "dead spots" on the face, nothing significant, and I coulde not gewt used to big drivers.

Then a buddy shows up with a 905R 10.5 Regular shaft and I hit 3 balls. Wow, what a pop off the club face, just explodes. Wrong shaft and loft for me, much too high, but WOW!. So I started watching and bidding. I wanted a slightly lighter shaft but tip stiff, the YS-6 seemed to be well received, so I couldn't wait to hit mine when I won the bidding.

I have never put a driver in my hands that felt so instantly comfortable. slightly higher ball flight than my 9.5 JVS, seems reasonable in appearance, actually gorgeous, and despite not having internal draw bias weighting like the JVS, a gentle draw seems to be my normal ball flight, which I prefer. And what pop. More solid feeling in toe hits than my JVS (which I still won't sell).

A real winner.Especially as a very clean demo, with a new cord grip for $164 on ebay. Wow!

i have hit titleist drivers the whole time i have been playing golf(which is about 7 years) and i have to say that this club is by far the upper crust of drivers. i've hit taylor made, nike, cleveland, cobra no comparison. go to a golf store and hit one before you buy, but you will not be dissapointed. hit clubs with different shafts though the shaft is a big deal when it comes to distance and accuracy.i have the grafite design YS-6 stiff in my 905. its a sweet shaft 320 off the tee

  Titleist 905R Driver

I decided I wanted to upgrade all of my golf clubs this summer to Titleist when I saw the price drop on the 905R drivers. I bought a 9.5 degree with the Aldila stiff shaft for $150 and this club has not disappointed. I am straighter than I ever was with my old driver (Adams Redline 460cc). I am about 14 handicapper and had never been able to work the ball before. Much to my surprise I have been able to hit draws and fades when I want with this club. I would recommend this club to anyone who wants to improve their golf game.

Great easy to hit driver for experienced players

I am a low hadicapper that's played for 40 plus years and have had many drivers most recently a Nike Ignite 9.5* with Prolaunch x shaft 65 grams for 2 years...which I loved...I swing pretty hard. I wanted to change shafts and heads and tried a friends Titleist 905 R 9.5* with a YS-6 s shaft and another friends 905 R 7.5* with a Proforce V2 s 76 gram shaft and it was just too simular to my Prolaunch x which was 65 grams, you had to swing hard to get it moving...Titleist 905 R head is very sweet spot oriented face and launched the ball high which I want to get it up over the trees asap and will get me more yardage in the winter. I wanted a shaft that was easier to swing that I didn't have to jump on to hit it far...and the YS-6 s fit me perfectly. The Titleist 905 R is a classic head by Titleist and just catch it in the middle and it will go forever. Now the 905 R is afordable for all to enjoy for half the price it came on the market for...

I recently traded in my TaylorMade R5 Dual driver with a Draw Bias for the 905R and I am hooked. I tried out both the Titleist D1 and D2 but could not swing them as well as I swing with the 905R. I am about a 14 handicaper and this club is perfect for me even at my level. I am a shorter guy about 5'5" and am able to work this club very well right off the shelf with a stiff flex UST V2 shaft. My driving distance improved from about 260 yards to 275 yards. Thats a significant increase for me. At the prices you can get a 905R for today I would highly recommend it. Good Luck.

  Titleist 905R YS-6II Stiff Shaft
Review created: 01/08/07
by:
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

This is most forgiving Titleist driver I have played so far. Class shape gives a confident look when addressed and square offset is easy to control when I need to shape a shot. The graphite designs YS-6II (65 gram) shaft was a little light compared with my previous speeder 757 (77gram) but I could not find the YS-7 shaft on eBay so I settled on YS-6.

The sound is typical BETA titanium metal but above center hit will give a crisp sound overall. So much better than some of drivers out there on the market. One that I cannot stand is tin can sounding driver many guys play to make a loud sound at driving range.

The ball will spin less if it is struck above the centerline and gives a good launch angle. I am using 9.5 degree and maximum height is about 40 yards so it gives a good carry and roll. My previous R7 Quad TP was also 9.5 degree and has 1 degree open face at setup but I still think it is more forgiving than 905R despite of 60cc smaller head. However, the head shape of 905R gives more confidence when you address so that is important factor on driver for me. My swing speed is 105 mph and launch angle is 14 degrees with spin rate of 3000 rpm with 905R = 265 yard carry.

I recommend this driver if you have consistent driving path such as draw or fade. If you have inconsistent driving, this driver is tough to control.

I just bought the 905R. I am a pretty good golfer and about a 4 handycap. I use the driver for the first time and was hitting it at least 10 yards farther than my previous 460 Nike Ignite. I was also hitting it with better ball flight that just soars though the wind. The old school titleist look is original. I would recormend this club over any other by the way I hit it for the first time.

  Titleist 905R vs. Taylor Made R7 400cc

I finally decided to have my swing analyzed by computer from Golf Galaxy. I was playing with a Taylor Made r7 and I was very diasspointed in the results of this club. My ball flight was horrible and my average carry distange was 255. I decided to go with the Titleist 905R with a Graphite Design YS-6 shaft and WOW! This club is night and day compared to my R7. I am very pleased with the results of this club. I like the looks, feel and results of this club over my R7.

The absolute best driver ever made! I have been on a two year quest to find the right driver after selling my first 905R. I've owned the Ping G10, Ping Rapture, Taylormade Burner TP, Titleist 907d2, Mizuno MP600, Nike Sasquatch, and recently hit the 909d3. The 909 and mp600 were the closest to the 905 but still not quite as good. In my quest to find a BETTER driver I have yet to find an equal to the 905r so I decided to go back to the fairway finder!

  Driver worth every penny--Titleist 905R
Review created: 07/18/07
by:
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I needed an upgrade as I was using a Calloway Steelhead III driver (pretty outdated indeed!). I had used a friend's 905T in a Capt./Crew and loved it. When doing searches, I focused on the 460cc of the 905R vs the 400cc of the 905T, and am I glad I did. Went from regular flex to a YS-6+ Stiff shaft--also happy with that decision. I am driving the ball on average 20 yards further. The sweet spot is about as big as my old driver, and I am hitting fairways as frequently as I did before.

So, to sum up......longer, just as accurate, better results on mis-hits....

A bit of warning though to those making a move from a much smaller club head--make sure to tee it up! When you hit it high center, the ball really flies.

Hit em straight!!!!

  Tileist 905R Proforce V2 stiff
Review created: 12/08/06
by:
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I first became interested in this driver during a golf trip in the early part of the year. I hit a demo club at a range in Florida and I was impressed. Later, in June of this year, a golf buddy bought an 8.5 degree 905R fitted with the Proforce V2 shaft. This club was long. I currently play the Tour Exotics 10.5 deg driver. I decided that some of the length I was experiencing was due to the shaft, so I switched my NV-65 for the V2 Proforce. I did not see a noticeable change in length, but my Tour exotics shot dispersion was noticeable tighter.
Well, this past Fall, I again hit the Proforce and found the driver to be longer. So I bought a 9.5 degree 905R and played two rounds. The 9.5 was long, but produced very high shots, too high for my liking. I realize it is all about carry these days, but this was just too much. I switched back to the Tour Exotics and will most certainly try more Titeist drivers in the future.

The bottom line on this driver, it is long, noticeably longer, and do not be afraid to drop down a degree from your current driver.

905R looks traditional; preforms like a champ
Review created: 12/29/08
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The Titleist 905R has a few things that most other 460cc drivers don't have. The look is very traditional with a very swept classic head. The face is not as tall as most 460 drivers, including the newer D1 and D2 models from Titleist. If you're a fan of shorter faces, and a more forgiving club, you'll like the 905R. It's very easy to hit long and straight with a very classic look and feel that purists will enjoy.

Pros:
*Classic shape
*Shorter face allows more forgiving club head

Cons:
*Very high pitched impact sound. If you don't like Titleist drivers, this may sound to "light" for you.

Overall:
Very traditional club that's forgiving, but very much a Titleist club with a high lofted sound and club head look.

  Titleist 905R Driver

The 905R driver is probably the best driver that Titleist has ever made, and I personally I feel that after trying the newest clubs that this is still the best. A 905R with the proper shaft will perform with any driver on the market unless you have a very difficult swing fault that only a special set-up would help.

  Titleist 905R UST Proforce V2 X Flex
Review created: 08/01/07

I bought this driver with very high expectations. I have used titleist drivers in the past with excellent results (975 LFE). I was somewhat disappointed in the performance of this club. I expected a lower ball flight with the X flex high kick point shaft. I was consistently hitting high balls that seemed to balloon. I realize I could have got the 8.5, but I don't think it would have mattered much. I found that my accuracy wasn't as great as my other driver (Cleveland Ti 460). However, the club looks beautiful at setup and had a nice swingweight. I just was hoping for a lower, more boring trajectory without the balloon effect. Overall, it wasn't the club for me.

Nothing to dislike about this club. Great sound, does not look like a 460cc at set up. Very forgiving club - the 1st time I played it I hit every fairway except one ( where I drove the ball through a dogleg ). Distance is excellent on solid hits, and very good on mis-hits. Be aware this club hits the ball high! The ball seems to get up quick then level out and stay there forever. I hit both the 9.5 degree 905t and 905r with Aldila NV65 stiff shafts, but decided to buy an 8.5 with a NV75 (higher bend point, lower torque) and it was a good choice (for me anyway - I swing hard from the top and the NV65 requires a smoother tempo). My old driver was a 983E with a stiff Prolite 35. Good club, comparable in distance, but not enough forgiveness for someone doesn't play 3 times a week.
