Like most all other DK books, this is simply excellent! "Titanic" is well written. It covers everything about the ship from the beginning of its construction to its demise from the iceberg and the aftermath of the tragedy. One great thing about this book is that it covers the "why" part of the "Titanic" -- why was it built? The answer is to compete with the Cunard liners the "Lusitania" and the "Mauritania" in the lucrative trans-Atlantic trade. Another great thing about this books is the numerous pictures, drawings, models, real life photos of the people, places, and things that are important in the story of the great ship.
Two things I learned in this book that I haven't seen elsewhere were that the distress rockets were launched 5 minutes apart which always meant nothing but that the ship was in distress. Another thing I learned was that the third class passengers had to have meal tickets to eat since the dining saloon wasn't big enough for all of them!
This is a great book about the "Titanic," and I highly recommend it to fellow "T" buffs!
