If you are a lover of any kind of History (like I am) but especially Ancient History, this book is a must have because it covers civilization from 5000 b.c. up to 1990. It is a horizonal link of people and events throughout history and covers history, politics, literature, theater, religion, philosophy, learning visual arts, music, science, technology, growth and daily life in separate columns in a very easy to use format. It has a wonderful index too. The entries are not in depth but they do give the pertinent details. I love that it is a large format book and the columns span both pages for any year. This makes it easy to read and allows space for making my own comments in the margin. The column format also makes it easy to track successive kings or queens as it is merely a matter of flipping forward and using a highlighter when you find a listing. This book has increased my desire to study history even more and opened up whole new avenues of lessons for me that I can apply to my very modern-day existence! Even if you only are interested in one period of history, this book is worth the purchase. Even if you only want a handy reference to use for dates, this book is worth the purchase. I guarantee you will flip through it and read stuff more than once. It is an excellent reference tool. I very highly recomend this book! Enjoy! signed, a Happy History Hugger
