  A Great Book!

I stayed away from The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger for a while. The reviews seemed to range from brilliant to people not enjoying it at all. Now I add myself to the group of readers who love this book. With its most unusual concept – a man who can travel through time – the book is not at all futuristic or bordering on science fiction. I loved the writing style throughout the book and, while it took me a few chapters to get used to the time shifting, it was utterly amazing to learn how everything unfolded to fit together as more and more of the story was revealed through the various timelines. The movement back and forth through time was not at all confusing. Ultimately, this was the amazing love story of Clare and Henry. Deeply sad in some ways, it was also very moving. This was definitely one of the most different books I’ve read in a while and also one of the best.

The Time Traveler's Wife is definitely an adventure

If you admire a great imagination, you will love this book. Facing the problems of leaving one time zone and shifting to another 5 years before or after may be a problem for the traveler, but for the writer to explain it all is a gargantuan task.
But, here it is in beautiful order, well written, with every possible problem faced and dealt with, a perfectly normal man in every way trying to live his live, flip flopping through different years. He meets his wife when she is 6 years old....how strange is that?
After they're married and want a child, then what?
Can anyone solve this dilemma?
The writing is full of great ideas with vivid descriptions, told by two people, Henry and Claire, from different perspectives alternately, making each event clearer in the mind of the listener.
This book isn't for everyone. The language can be a bit brutal from time to time, but most adults would not particularly be disturbed by this so-called "Street language." But on the whole it's a great bit of prose. The story itself is dramatic, interesting, and very imaginative. A science fiction buff would love this book on tape. It contains 8 tapes and runs at least 8 hrs.
I was amazed at the thinking involved in preparing this book, and the way it flowed in and out of time. Can you imagine holding a job and never knowing when or where you'll be next?

  Trippy!
Review created: 09/11/07

I bought this audio book on referral from a family member and love it! It's a story about the relationship between a young girl and the man who will become her husband, a time traveler. It documents their brief moments together and builds the history of their life as well as pulling historical facts from the time period of the 1970s through the present.

The characters are well written and the plot is wonderfully creative. Like someone took a Rubik's cube with photos of these two people's lives on every side and then scrambled it. The 'out of order-ness' of the story line lends a little anxiety to the hearing of it, but it makes you identify with the characters even more because of it.

The only thing I was hoping for was more of a spiritual slant which doesn't seem to be the focus but it works very well in spite of that. All told, it's been very entertaining and fun. Very well written, exciting, and poignant.

I bought this book on tape because I needed to read it for a book club. I really enjoyed it. I buy books on tape so that I can walk and "read" at the same time.

THIS IS AN ORIGINAL "INTO AND OUT OF THE FUTURE" BOOK
Review created: 10/04/06

This is great read but you really have to be into it. It skips around alot but the story is well worth reading and listening to(audio tape). Did both. Can't help but think the author had to be going nuts keeping it all straight.

The Time Traveler's Wife was an unexpected gem of a book--a bittersweet story of true love that literally spans time. From start to finish, The Time Traveler's Wife was so incredibly moving and well-crafted, I couldn't put it down-- which was a shame, because I finished it too soon and truly did not want to put the book away.

  Quirky & inventive

I have never read anything like it and that was wonderful! It is a very imaginative and quirky tale about a man that spontaneously travels through time. During these journeys he meets his future wife first as a little girl and then throughout her childhood. This is their story. Personally I think that the author did a great job keeping everything fluid - since the book jumps around in time and place. It was not confusing in the least considering the pretext. Be warned it does have some sexual content that could be offensive to some, however it wasn't overly graphic or focused on this, so I personally was okay with it.

  Magical

If you love Romance, time travel, mystery or just a plain good book, I highly recommend this. You won't want to put it down. The imagery is wondeful. Very original concept and well thought out. One of the few books I was able to read twice and enjoy just as much as the first time if not more. Thought provoking, you won't want the book to end. The book is from both the main two character's perspectives. The time traveler himself and his wife. An all time favorite I have already recommended to friends. You won't be disappointed.
