An idea hatched in Lewis's youth, the retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche gained spiritual import as he finished the novel in his adult life. Written in two parts, this little-known work examines the life of Orual, first a princess and later a queen, and what happens when she meets the god who took her sister. Thought-provoking, you may gain insights about yourself as you share Orual's journey.

C.S. Lewis - "Till We Have Faces"
Review created: 05/10/09

In this novel, Lewis applies his singular analytical abilities to an ancient tale and creates a beautiful image of the relationship between the person and the divine. This is a story that must be completed before it can be fully understood. I bought it while I was discovering Lewis' works and I have recommended it to several friends. If you are searching for a lighter, easier read that still has a positive message, I would recommend this work. Hopefully it will spark your interest to examine more of C.S. Lewis.

This is by far one of my favorite C.S. Lewis Books now. It was absolutely amazing! I couldnt put it down, if you are looking for a book that will give you perspective on yourself and your motives this is the book for you. C.S. takes you through an amazing story and punches you in the face with the ending. Buy this book. Also check out Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, and C.S. Lewis' Space Series: Out of the Silent Planet, Perelandra, and That Hideous Strength

  TILL WE HAVE FACES
Review created: 06/01/07

I PURCHASED THE BOOK BECAUSE I'M INTERESTED IN THE AUTHOR, C.S.LEWIS. IT IS A REWORKING OF THE CUPID/PSYCHE MYTH FROM GREEK MYTHOLOGY BUT INCLUDES MANY CHRISTIAN ELEMENTS. I ENJOYED THE BOOK, ALTHOUGH THE FIRST HALF OF IT DRAGGED SOMEWHAT. THE SECOND HALF SEEMED TO READ MUCH FASTER. THE CONDITION OF THE BOOK WAS AS I WAS LED TO BELIEVE. C.S. LEWIS HAS A UNIQUE POINT OF VIEW WHICH IN SOME WAYS IS DATED BUT IN MANY WAYS STILL TRANSLATES WELL TO TODAY.

Till We Have Faces is Lewis at his best!
Review created: 12/08/06
by:

In this retelling of the ancient myth of Cupid (Greek god of love) and Psyche (Greek word for soul / spirit), Lewis explores the human soul's need for love. He also deftly handles the human's tendency to substitute selfishness and deception for love and truth. Powerful, engaging, and deeply moving. The reader will benefit from some basic knowledge of the original mythology on which this is based. Like his Narnian chronicles or his space trilogy, it is a great story, but is also deeply insightful and allegorical (though a more challenging allegorical read than the Chronicles). Buy it. Read it. And may you meet the Love that persues your soul in it.
