Tideland (DVD, 2007, Collector's Edition)

REALISTIC, THOUGHT PROVOKING DVD. I HAD SEEN IT BEFORE AND WANTED A COPY.
THE SCENES AND THE CHILD ACTRESS WERE OUTSTANDING.

Tho I’m a big fan of Terry Gilliam, Tideland is a bit beyond me. Not a bad film by any means and certainly Jodelle Ferland (Jeliza-Rose) as a bright future ahead of her. It’s just not what I’m looking for in a film.

Still, for those who do like movies that explore the inner workings of the mind, this might be an interesting film to watch. The imagery is quite compelling and the underwater scene is a must see.

For me, the ending is a bit of a let down. I was left feeling there was so much more to left to explore. Certainly the disturbed young girl (and disturbed she should be with what she’s had to go through) still has a long way to go either in her recovery or in her downward spiraling towards madness.

However as Terry Gilliam says in the Intro... Children tend to bounce back, they are made to survive!

The imagination of a little girl is in the centre, in this weird (and kind of heartwarming) movie by the genious Terry Gilliam. Its not about moral or justice, its about a little girls will to live through her fantasies.

I rented this movie with my boyfriend and it was unlike any other movie. It's about a little girl that her parents are drug addicts and she doesn't really realize what is going on. She is left in a house to herself with some strange neighbors and a boy that becomes her best and only friend there. She lives in her own world in her mind and sees things different from what they really are. It's a really twisted movie!

If you like movies that are different and explore the dark side of life, you may love this movie as much as I do! It is visually stunning and shows the complete innocence of a child in a screwed up world.

Young Jelyza Rose is a wonderfully talented girl mislead by her faulty childhood. Following her footsteps through her parent's tainted conceptions, this story reveals the life and times of a lonely, yet wholly fulfilled, alien child able to amuse herself in bizarre ways. Featuring a unique and talented cast, "Tideland" made for a wondrous and magical bedtime story. No more than a simple modern fairy tale for people who choose not to grow up, this story is as beautiful as it is disturbingly wonderful.

The description said VERY GOOD, it wasn't :( Like I said though it plays so can't really complain.....
