In addition to his fiction films, and often surpassing them, director Werner Herzog has built up a prolific body of work as a documentarian. This collection presents three short films that highlight both Herzog's thematic range and daring.


DARK GLOW OF THE MOUNTAINS follows legendary mountaineer Reinhold Messer as he scales a pair of the world's tallest peaks. Like many of Herzog's films, it explores the compulsion to push oneself to the edge of death. Child soldiers discuss fighting in the Nicaraguan contras in the haunting BALLAD OF THE LITTLE SOLDIER. And finally, in the quasi-documentary PRECAUTIONS AGAINST FANATICS, Herzog engineers an absurdist drama to unfold at a racetrack.
