Three Kings (DVD, 2000, Special Edition Letterboxed)

It's hard to really adequately describe this movie. Let me try.

For starters, in spite of the advertisements, it's not merely a remake of "Kelly's Heroes". Yes, we are in a postwar situation, where a bunch of Americans are trying to "recover" gold stolen by the enemy, but that's the end of the similarities.

"Three Kings" does an excellent job of showing just how gonzo modern warfare has become. You've got unemployed reservists going to the Middle East for kicks fighting Saddam, who uses gas attacks, electric shock torture and other atrocities to fight the rebels. Thrown in the mix are a U.S.-educated Iraqi whose businesses were destroyed by the Americans, a bunch of rebels and refugees living in bunkers, a CNN-type correspondent facing the threat of younger reporters, and Mark Wahlberg's character finding a cell phone in the Iraqi bunker and using it to call his wife in the U.S.

The movie is extremely funny at times, graphically violent at times, but always on target. It provides a lot of insight into how non-Americans view the U.S. I cannot think of another major movie which showed people in a third-world country as modern people without patronizing. Even the soldiers shooting at our heros, gassing the refugees, and torturing Mark Wahlberg's character are shown as human beings.

Somehow this movie got lost last year amongst all the hype for "American Beauty". "Three Kings" looks to have much more staying power. George Clooney continues to shine in yet another under-appreciated performance. For somebody with a Hollywood legacy, he really seems to have pushed some of the wrong buttons in Hollywood. I cannot think of any other explanation for why he has yet to achieve the acclaim his performances deserve.

The movie starts kinda slow but over all its a great movie. Lots of action!! great for all ages would recomend for every one..this is not only a must see movie but it is a must have movie. seen it a few years back and always thought about iut but never bought it until now and am extemely happy with it!!! A+++++++++++

I bought this movie because of the stars. It can get a tad slow in spots, but it is a excellent movie. More twist and turns then a roller-coaster. A tad bloody, but what do you expect in a war?

While this movie is advertised as a get-rich-quick ops by bored US soldiers during the last days of the Gulf War, it has a lot of surprises, as they look at the war and it's aftermath with open eyes and reluctantly open hearts. They change thier plans along the way to rescue a few civilians, and end up taking part in a life-and-death caravan to save the people they have met along the way of procuring their riches. It's a little graphic at times, but there is a great sense of humor throughout and enjoyable to the very end!

The reason that I picked this movie is that Geoge Clooney and Mark Wahlberg are in it. Mark Wahlberg's movies are great to watch. There is a lot of wxcitement in them. George Clooney's movies are excellent. He potrays a lot of characters in his movies. He's been in romantic movies and action/drama picutes. I've never seen Ice Cube in any movies. This should be an interesting movie.

it was a good dvd. it is better the first time you watch it and then less exciting the next you watch it.

This is an awesome movie, I absolutely love it. Even if you have never seen it, purchasing it is not a waste of money! A+++

very thought provoking, although some of the content could have been left out and still would have been a good movie.

great movie lots of action great acting it rings true a little gore but not too much teens will love it the women of course love the actors they are all very good looking good story line enough action to keep the men occupied can watch several times without getting bored

This is one for the movie archives-really well done and the chemistry between the main characters is impressive.

An excellent action movie filled with thrills & spills! George clooney is the lead & does a great job. His co stars also contribute with great performances. The story line is a solid scenario & is fast paced with action. Their are times when you will be at the edge of your seat in the many action scenes. This is one movie that you will not regret buying.

If you weren't already proud to be an American............you certainly will be after watching this.

This is a great movie. Very funny and cool. Great soundtrack. Quality cast (Ice Cube, Mark Wahlberg, George Clooney and others).
