How To Transform any Print Into an "In-Depth" Picture

This book has its pros and cons. In my opinion, the pros outweigh the cons. I like this book because it gave me some creative ideas that simply had not occurred to me before I read it. I tend to approach art and craft books with an open mind as to what they have to offer that can spark new ideas and inspiration beyond just the actual projects that are contained in the book, so for me this book was really enlightening. (I tend to be a "process" person, not a "project" person.)

Having said that, I think that the "cons" about this book are really mostly that some of the projects in the book look a bit dated. This is a crafts book from 1975, and it looks like it. However, there are lots of really cute projects, and most of them are inspired by vintage and antique prints. Some of them do look very 70's but still cute; there is a 3-dimensional raggedy ann doll print that I think is adorable. There are also pretty roses and other flowers. So, while the book's design definitely looks 70's, the projects are varied.

One more "con" is that the techniques described in the book are time consuming. Most arts and crafts, by nature, are time-consuming so this shouldn't come as a shock, but even considering that you should expect to spend some time creating these projects if you want to learn how to do 3-d decoupage.

The pros:

The projects do seem easy to make; I think anyone at all could do them, even someone with no art background. If you are willing to spend the time it takes to do these, you'll be able to do them.

These ideas are very creative, and will translate well to an artist's own work.

The instructions are clearly written.

There is a good variety of ideas, all within the theme of 3-dimensional decoupage.

Overall I think this book is well worth buying. I think that "process people" will get more enjoyment out of it than "project people" will, but that either one would find at least some value in owning the book.
