The book was interesting and well written. I, however, did not enjoy the foreign words inserted throughout the book. Some were explained, others may have been and I just didn't get it. I don't enjoy trying to figure out pronounciations of foreign names, let alone words, sentences, etc. I pass over them and see no point in cluttering up the english language version of the book.

Great WWII Read
) This is a truly great book, but nobody seems to know about it. There's lots of fiction and non fiction books about WWII in England,Germany and France, but this is one of those rare ones about this period in Italy. You get different points of view, from the residents to the refugees and the relationships that formed between them. I should warn you that this is a heartbreaking book. But it was so well written that even though it made me cry, I can sincerely say that it's been the best book I've read in a long time. I've made several people read it already, so I hope you take my advice and read it too.
