Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum (2005, Paperback, Reprint)

I am honored to be the first to review this book. Ms. Blum writes this story in such a way that you feel you are there with the two main characters. This is one of those books you have a hard time putting down, you want to find out what happened next. The "secret" Anna holds deep in her heart is a powerful insight into what is was like during the holocaust. Trudy goes through alot of emotional turmoil as she searches for the truth of her past. The end is tied together in an unexpected way. There are some books I call "keeper", this is one of them. I will allow people to borrow this one, but will be keeping it to read again. I hope Ms. Blum will write another as beautiful as this one.

This work of historical fiction was rich in detail and beautifully written. The artful prose and World War II accounts blended into a fascinating, if dark, page-turner. Our book club read it and all agreed it was a remarkable work (hard to believe the first novel of its author.) The characters were complicated and unforgettable. I believe the cover photo and historic nature was why we selected it, and we weren't sorry! It was fantastic!

Enjoyed the historical issues which are discussed in the story; awakens one's sense of justice past and present. The book was selected by our book club which consists of retired high schol teachers [who taught together]. Book leads to a good discussion which is the type of book we like to select.Most of our selections[42 todate] contain material that has some semblance of fact. We look for material which will lead to different opinions in our discussions.

i bough a book on 10-27. i paid the same day and i am still waiting 11.19.I need to know when i am going to receive my book.

This was chosen by our Book Club by a member who had already read it. We rate our books at the end of the discussion and this book received the highest rating of any book we had ever read in the Club's 3-year existence. It is a story of the relationship between a mother and daughter, the demons we wrestle with every day and the power of love and hate. But mostly it is the struggle of the human spirit to survive and even thrive under the most horrendous circumstances. It was a hard book to put down. I highly recommend it.
