Thoroughly Modern Millie (DVD, 2003)

I bought it because my son is / was doing this production at school. I wanted to see the movie, we made a family night out of it and enjoyed it very much. Although it was a bit long, it was a great, clean movie....

I bought this film, because I like musicals and Julie Andrews. The story takes place in the "roaring twenties" with Julie Andrews starring as Millie and Mary Tyler Moore is her sweet little friend Dorothy. These innocent country girls are in for a shock when they find out their apartment manager is envolved with white slavery. The film is a toe tapper with the lively musical numbers performed by Andrews, Moore and the funny Carol Channing.

I ordered 2 of the movies, one for myself and another for a friends grandaughter who is oh so modern and loves to perform. She wasn't even born when the movie came out but she absolutely loves it. Bright girl!!!

The "Thoroughly Modern Millie" DVD was in perfect condition of cover and quality. Nothing but the best.

Love this movie! Was so glad to see it offered in DVD. It's a lot of fun to see a young Mary Tyler Moore playing such a prissy part...and John Gavin is perfect for his part. He's very handsome but not a very good actor but since the character is a stilted sort of person, he carries it off perfectly. The only main character who isn't very good is James Fox who plays Jimmy...he's cute but again not a good actor: luckily, Jimmy is a goofy sort of character and so the lack of talent doesn't hurt too much. Julie Andrews is super and Carol Channing steals the scenes she is in. Love the costumes and you must notice that Millie wears the same gray dress at least 3 different times, each time with a different accent ribbon at the hips: quite realistic for a working girl's wardrobe!
There are a lot of cute songs and action and the story itself is interesting: white slavery in the roaring 20's isn't what one expects from a musical!

i love this movie :0) much like "a christmas story," its humorous on many levels - i loved it as a kid, and i think its even funnier as an adult. sure, its cheesy, but its such a good time!

Julie Andrews has the starring role as a young woman from the country determined to fit in with the modern women in the city. She sets out first to modernize her looks and then to find a boss whom she will marry. In the process, she meets and befriends Mary Tyler Moore, falls for an irresponsible but charming young man, and gets suspicious of her mysterious landlady. Nice family entertainment, complete with singing, dancing, and car chase.

This is a great movie. I actually purchased it for a friend of mine.

We really liked the movie. My mother (72) and I (46) found it reminescent of a different culture and a different time when women were just getting out in the workforce. It is good family fun entertainment.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is an excellent example of classic dance and theater. My daughter is going to be in a revue this winter, in which dances and songs from Thoroughly Modern Millie are included. We enjoyed watching this DVD, and my daughter picked up wonderful dance steps from the "Tapioca" scene. This will be in our video library of must-see-again.

A fun family musical. We really liked the dancing in the elevator and the adventures that the characters were involved in. There were some parts that were just nonsense -- but that generally does happen in musicals. Overall it is entertaining and fun for the whole family.

Loved the music and the characters were portrayed well by the actors. It is a fun-loving movie. I also say it performed by a High School recently and they did a bang - up job too, so I decided to buy it. I love musicals.

This was an easy transaction with fast shipping! I couldn't find this DVD at a store so I checked E-bay. I found it and bought it in a matter of minutes!

Originally didn't have it in stock which took an additional time to ship it. When they did receive it in, they promptly delivered it as obligated to do so.

I bought this travesty because I'm directing the stage version next spring and wanted to show it to my cast. What a huge disappointment! The normally wonderful Julie Andrews is completely miscast in the title role (where did that girl from a small Kansas town get that British accent?) Mary Tyler Moore plays Miss Dorothy as if she's on heroin. Worst of all, the woman who plays the evil Mrs. Miers has NO BAD CHINESE ACCENT?!! This is completely integral to the character. AHHHHHH! The singing is done primarily in voice over, with little 1960's alterations (poo-poo-de-doo) tossed in, and there is a blatant attempt by the director to show off what he learned at film school by throwing in every cheap segue wipe he can find. After watching 45 minutes with no discernible plot, I'll admit that I turned it off, so I'm only reviewing that much--but then, I really hate throwing up.

Lots of singing and dancing. An entertaining movie. It's kind of long but good. Overall, it's good. Mary tyler moore and julie andrews star.

This is such a cute movie. I rented it from Hollywood video and instantly fell in love with it. Hence why I bought it. I just had to have it. If you haven't seen it, rent it, I guarantee you'll want to buy it. Happy watching.

This has been one of my favorite films of all time, ranks right up there with The Sting and The Quite Man.
