This movie is one of the very few out there that are about ACTUAL teen lives. Movies like Mean Girls, She's The Man, etc. are cute and fun for some but not realistic.
A lot of people say that Evan Rachel Wood was over dramatic, and usually those people are adults. Either they have forgotten what it was like when they were teenagers, or they never went through it and dont believe that anyone else has.
They are wrong. Teens cut, steal, are sexually active, and lie. Im not saying all do, but some.
washington1960grad said it's about, "Little girls growing up way too fast. Sex, drinking, drugs, stealing, body piercing....there was no clear "moral of the story". Just despair." Well that's how it is for some teens! Teens WANT to grow up fast. They want to fit in. They want to experiment. And yes, there was a moral to the story. It showed by the end of the movie that the stuff they were doing was completely not worth it in the long run, how living that type of life can ruin your future so quickly, and how you just end up hurting yourslf and the ones you love. washington1960grad, you should have gotten the DVD for your 13 year old granddaughter, because if she actually payed attention to the story then she may have learned something.
I went through just a few of the things Tracy had 3 years ago when I was 13. Thankfully I never went too far. I was just a 13 year old who wanted to know what it was like to be "that" girl. Yes, I was immature, but Im passed that. However, I know MANY MANY MANY girls in my high school who are like Evie... and I live in Irvine! Also, this movie was based partly on Nikki Reed's life. She portrayed her time as a thirteen year old on the screen, and did a wonderful job at it along with Evan Rachel Wood, and Holly Hunter. The silent moments that Wood brought on to the screen were heartbreaking, and TRUE acting.
This is definately NOT a Hollwood movie, just real teenage life (for some). I recomend this for both teens and adults. Parents should become aware of the signs when there is trouble in there teenager's life. The reason that Tracy kept falling deeper and deeper into darkness was because her mom wasn't really there to pull her back (throughout most of the movie).
I just really LOVED the honesty and bravery of this movie!!! It's one of my favorites.
