This book is awesome, if you like horses, that is. It really gives you alot of good ideas as to why they do the things they do and what you can do if you have problems, or if you just want to be part of the herd. It also is written well and easy to read. Enjoy, its worth it.

How to Think Like a Horse by Cherry Hill (2006)

This easy read book is great for those who have owned horses for years or for the new horse owner. Anyone who is becoming a Vet Tech or assistant would also benefit from reading this book. Cherry Hill gets right into the horses mind and explains what they think and how/why they react as they do. It helps to explain to us "humans" that the horse is not trying to be "bad" at times but is reacting out of years of natural instinct, be is out of fear, protection, and/or "feelings". They are not "dumb" or "stupid" as a matter of fact they are quite the opposite. They are able and willing to learn, we just need to know how they think and how they learn best. Great Book! Great Read!!!

How to think like a horse

It was very educational. I purchased it because I wanted to understand my miniature horses better epecially since the mare may foal in 4 to 6 weeks. The book was sent in a reasonable time frame and may buy future books from the same author and E - bay distributors. Thanks, CWC

REQUIRED READING for ALL -Talk "horse", ride natural !
Review created: 03/07/07
by:

I have been training horses since I was 9 years old. As a child, I read every book I could find about horses and finally was able to put some of my learning into practice with "real live horses". There are some people who are "amazed" at my ability to "talk horse" but I believe that it is a combination of my intense interest through reading but others think that it is "genetic" since I am part "Delaware Native American". Regardless, I found this book to be a valuable resource, in addition to validation to so many of the "things (talk)" that I have always done with the horses I worked with. I am beginning the "retirement phase" of my life by beginning to formally pursue equitation training of humans. I plan to make reading Cherry Hill's book, required reading for all my potential students, BEFORE they begin working with my horses (all of whom are Arabians, by the way, and are accustomed to conversing with humans (me)on a regular basis). Thank you, Cherry, you "put it all together" in a wonderful text! Definitely a "must read". Peg Carson, Willowbrook Arabians, Romney, Indiana

  Great book!

I've been around horses my whole life but never owned one until September 05. This book is great, it puts everything in perspective and is very helpful. It teaches you what to look for, and shows you a lot of things you've never noticed. It doesn't go terribly in depth about training, just basics. Also, it isn't written as if Cherry Hill assumes you already know everything about horses. Definately a book for horse lovers like myself.
