Album Notes 2 LPs on 1 CD: THINGS ARE SWINGING (1958)/JUMP FOR JOY (1958). Dutch version combines two 1958 releases, THINGS ARE SWINGIN' and JUMP FOR JOY, on one CD as part as EMI Records' Centenary series. Released in 1958, THINGS ARE SWINGIN' presents jazz/pop vocalist Peggy Lee at the height of her powers. Backed by a big band with conductor Jack Marshall at the helm, Lee floats over the lively arrangements, with her smooth, sensual voice always gently rising above the boisterous horns lines. As the title plainly states, the focus of the record in squarely set on swing tunes, whether it's the playful, hard-hitting "All right, Okay, You Win" or the delicate, deft "Lullaby in Rhythm." Although other highlights include the spry "It's a Wonderful World" and the smoky "You're Getting to Be a Habit with Me," the true standout song is a bonus on the 2004 reissue--"Fever," the slinky single that became one of Lee's signature tunes. The addition of that track and its lovelorn B-side, "You Don't Know," makes THINGS ARE SWINGIN' one of the finest Lee releases available--highly recommended for newcomers and absolutely essential for fans.
