That Thing You Do! by Original Soundtrack (CD, Sep-1996, Epic Soundtrax)

This soundtrack from the movie of the same title features some very good songs, all of which were written and performed to sound as though the songs actually came from the year 1964, which I like.

Tom Hanks himself had a hand in writing a number of these songs, and as all of these are original works, it can be said that what Tom has done is he created an alternate musical history of 1964, which I also like.

The title track is the impetus of the movie, yes, but there are also some very good tracks by artists which are also part of the movie, even if you never see those particular artists in the film, such as the Saturn 5 and the Vicksburgs.

If you get the chance to purchase this soundtrack CD here, I recommend that you do so, as it is well worth the money!

I like the music in this CD as well as the movie. I enjoyed that snappy tune and some of the other songs as well. Good to get on ebay.

A Beatle fan as I was growing up during the 60's and 70's, this soundtrack, and its accompanying movie DVD was just wonderful. A great job by Tom Hanks into the one hit Wonders and the entire Era that it encompassed. Informative, entertaining, and just a sheer delight.

i like upbeat songs and good to get down and dance too. i like the different style of songs on cd , i would recommend this cd to any of my family and friends.

After watching the movie on HBO, I was taken by the fact that this was not only Tom Hanks directorial debut, but that he actually wrote and scored some of the songs on the CD.
For any fan of early 60's music, this is a must have. It chronicles the attempts at fame of a one-hit wonder band circa 1963, when a famous British band was invading America. The score has rock and roll, period favorites, and some Motown R&B sounds as well. The CD itself is a great cut, all songs are clear, crisp, and concise in their presentation.
This CD normally sells for a retail price of $14.99, but I was able to acquire it for 1/3 of the price through Ebay's power seller. I continue to see the value in shopping on Ebay, ... great selection, amazing prices, even with shipping factored in.
Five stars for this CD! Buy it!

Even though the tracks were written and recorded in 1990's, the music from 'That Thing You Do!' strikes a nostagic chord for the fun, AM radio hits of the 1960's. Hanks and company cover the full spectrum of 1960's pop music from imitations of the Mersey Sound of Liverpool, to Motown, and finally the 'Surf Sound' of 1960's Southern California!

One only wishes the contemporary music scene sounded this good!

That Thing You Do was a great movie and of course it's the music that made up so much of the movie. This cd contains most all of the songs you will remember hearing along with a few others from the playtone group. Upbeat and fun a great cd.

No over-played, same-song-in-every-movie soundtrack here. ALL ORIGINAL, fantastic music made in the 90's but sounds like the magical 60's. Tom Hanks is a genius and this is HIS movie. The true brilliance of the movie is reflected in this AWESOME CD soundtrack. This CD is a must for anyone who loves the classic style of 60's rock and roll. I bought my copy the day the movie came out (10-4-96) and after about a million plays, it still is and always will be one of my all-time favorites. Buy it, play it, enjoy it. The best CD from the best movie ever made!

watching the movie and listening to the tunes took me back to a place and time like it used to be. every scene and dialogue were really good , although i believe in and out burger had not expanded outside ca. as of that year . each time i watch a tom hanks production , i look forward to seeing rita wilson make an appearance. joseph montez norwalk ca.

I loved this movie and the music is great. Good buy. Lots of fun. As I said in the title, who didn't love Liv Tyler in this movie, not to mention Tom Hanks and the blues music was fantastic although I don't think there's enough of that on the CD. All in all, a good CD.

This is the best CD I ever bought. I loved the movie and I love the CD. I hope I don't wear it out I play it so often. This music really captures the sound of the mid 60's.

the music is great and the actors are fun and energetic. reminds me of waatching my tv when I was young just the sheer fun and energetic sense of the movie is great.

My impression with the moive "That thing you do" is very good and that's why I bought the CD. I was so exciting when I receive it in the mail and so disppointed when I started to listen to it. The songs may be nice but the singers are terrible. Though I only paid 1 cent plus $3.99 for shipping and handling, this is definitely on my give away list to the local library.
