  Amazing, inspiring saga
Review created: 06/20/08
by:

A brilliant, well illustrated, colorful and thoughtful look at the giants of American industry. These pioneers were so unusual not just because of their flashes of inspiration, but far more so for their willingness to defy convention, endure rejection and years and sometimes decades of obstacles to create in the flesh what few would dare to even dream. Evans is a master storyteller, bringing to life the personalities, the times and the dynamics of the names we hear so often but seldom grasp as human beings. Where are these giants nowaday? There are still be a few, but our buttoned down world of VC's, timid private equity and corporate raiders doesn't have the vision to recognize them. Fortunately, these daring minds will always find a way to succeed.

  Captivating History of American Industry

At first look this book is intimidating and you will hesitate to pick up and read. It is large and thick. But once you pick a story out and start to read, you'll want to read it cover to cover.
I details the men and women who started major industries that changed the way we live. There are some of the usual suspects (Thomas Edison) and some you never heard of but should have. It is written very well and keeps your attention and moves along smoothly. If you like to know "The Rest of the Story" you'll want to have this in your library.
