Why I Totally Enjoyed "These is my Words"

This is one of the best books I have ever read. It has the capability of transforming the reader to another time and place completely. The characters are so real that it seems as though you are right there with them. I laughed, I cried, I read until I was bleary eyed and couldn't read another word until I slept a while - it was that good! I had no idea until I read this book how hard the lives were for Pioneer families. The love story woven within the chapters is exquisite. The births, the deaths, the dogs, the horses, the Indians, the storms, the landscapes - each were described in a way that you could picture the scene clearly in your mind. A must read!!

This was a book my "books and brownies" book club chose to read. It was an excellent example of struggle, success and a great desire to overcome. The descripiton of the early Arizona Territory was enlightening. I would recommend this book to anyone. Do not be put off by the poor grammar in the beginning of the book - it is a tool of the writer. Ti improves as Sarah does.

  Excellent book!

I liked the story plot of a young family and the struggles that they faced moving across the country. This goes along way with real history from the pioneers and others coming west and the suffering they had but also the good things in life also. Things are simple, harsh and rewarding. This is a good book.

  Amazing Book

I love this book. It has a little bit of everything: romance, adventure, history, tragedy, humor. The author wrapped me up in the story early on and didn't let me go. It reminds me a bit of the book "Mrs. Mike" but even better. The main character is hard not to love. There are 2 sequels that are both very good too.

This book was a little slow at the begining but it picked up quiet rapidly. I can't wait to read the next book in the series Sarah's Quilt.

  "These Is My Words"

This is a book I had never heard of that was chosen for our book club. I LOVED it and read it as fast as possible. Everyone in the club liked it also, which is unusual. It gives a first hand view of what life was like in the Arizona Territories in the late 1800's and I think anyone would find it interesting, but the love story that runs through it would also make it a good "woman's" book although it is far from a romance novel per se. I bought it because I prefer to own my books and pass them on to family and friends.

I love this book. I have read it twice and think it is a great historical novel. Sarah is such a strong character. She stands up for what she believes is right and she protects her family at all costs. If I lived up in the time period she did, I would hope that I could be as strong as her. She deserves Captain Elliot. He is the only constant in her life, and although the ending isn't "happily ever after" I still love it. The characters in the novel are strong and believable.

I read incessantly. This book captivated me and I have read the sequel to it Sarah's Quilt and found it equally well written and a real 'interest holder'. I then went back and reread These is My Words and found it more interesting the second time through. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to escape from the formula novels that we find ourselves swimming in these days and the endless sequels.
A story set in the late 1800s of life on the frontier from the perspective of a young adult girl, the trials that came to her in the process of just living her daily life and of her fierce independence and competence which was the side benefit she acquired. I am a man and found this book one of my all time favorites.

This is actually the 3rd copy of this book, that I own. I love the book so much that, I lend it out
and want to make sure, I always have a copy for me. It is a must read, for anyone who loves
history. The book is written in diary form about the hardships of life on the untamed land
we now call home.

I am reading this book for my Arizona based book club. It tells the story of a woman's development during the period of the Arizona Territory. It describes a whole gamit of real life emotions, tragedies, celebrations and adventures. Although it is slow reading at times, it was a wonderful journey to read and participate in. I would strongly recommend it for any book club whether from the southwest or not.
It has a limited publication at this time, so I was delighted that it was still available through Ebay.

Diary of a young girl, to woman, in early Arizona.
Review created: 06/07/07

It was an assiged book for a Book Club I belong to. I would highly recommend it. It is highly descriptive life of living in a hard and dangerous Arizona in the "covered wagon" era. A strong woman who knows how to handle a gun, but is also a gentle mother and lover.

  These Is My Words review
Review created: 01/12/07

This book is not what I had originally expected. It is much more. Being a history and quilting buff, the book far exceeded all of my original thoughts. The prose is crisp and descriptive and I felt that I was a part of the story. Amazing historical facts and resarch are within the covers of this book. I highly recommend it. I could not put it down!
