Album Notes 3 LP's on 2 CD's: THE VERY SPECIAL WORLD OF LEE HAZLEWOOD(1966)/LEE HAZLEWOODISM, ITS CAUSE AND CURE(1967)/SOMETHING SPECIAL(1968). Includes additional tracks only released as singles, and unreleased instrumental tracks recorded by Lee Hazelwood's Woodchucks. Contains 35 tracks. Bringing together THE VERY SPECIAL WORLD OF LEE HAZLEWOOD, LEE HAZLEWOOD-ISM: ITS CAUSE AND CURE, and SOMETHING SPECIAL, this two-disc collection presents the eccentric singer/songwriter's entire output for MGM Records. These late-1960s studio sessions find Hazlewood following up the initial success of his pairing with Nancy Sinatra, but instead of working with the Chairman's daughter again, the Oklahoma native opted to veer back into solo territory, with the exception of a few duets recorded with Suzi Jane Hokum (the woozy, sun-soaked "Summer Wine," the wanderlust tale "Sand"). The ever-cheeky Hazlewood tinkers with his own hits, offering up a lounge version of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" that even addresses the song's popularity. The compilation also includes one of the artist's finest tunes, the blissfully melancholy "My Autumn's Done Come," which showcases Hazlewood's deep voice over a delicate, dreamy arrangement. Although THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKIN' may feature too much material to make it the ideal introduction, it's a release that's essential for any devoted Hazlewood fan.
