There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly by Child's Play, Pam Adams (2000, Hardcover, Board)

I love the book design of hard cover pages. Very bright colors and cute characters in the illustrations. I like the actual hole in the book that gets bigger and bigger after turning each page. Because I have small children I have to change the words from, "Perhaps she'll die" to "Oh me oh my" and the ending, "She's dead of course" to She's sick of course." Other than a few harsh words, this book is great!

Silly, abstract, impossible and fun! I still remember this book vividly from my childhood. Great pictures and great for the imagination

When I was a librarian for an elementary school I used this book with the doll. I chose children to put the animals in the little old lady and another one to take them out of her. The children loved it.
A friend of mine had borrowed this set to read to a little neighbor's class, and she followed my example. She fell in love with this book and doll as well as the class. So, when her child recently turned three I had to find the correct doll (there is another doll out there that is very scary and ugly-DON'T get that one!)and the small hard board book to go with it. The little 8 year old boy, whose class she read to, was at the party. He remembered the doll and dropped the toys he was playing with and started playing with this doll and the animals! He wouldn't put down this doll! It had been over a year since she read to them and he remembered everything.
Needless to say, it is one of my friend's and her boy's favorite books to read together now.
I am no longer a librarian and I miss it terribly because of the children and being able to read to them. I always try to give my favorite books to children as gifts.
Instill the love of reading. It's not hard to do.

This was one my kids' favourite books growing up! My daughter wanted this one to read to her preschool class.

Great book for beginning readers! Very repetitive and that helps readers when learning to read. I got this for a Christmas gift and I bought a storytelling kit to go with it so the kids can see the different animals in the old lady's stomach!

This is a nice sturdy little book. My Grandaughter loves it because it helps her with her felt board story. It makes it easy to remember what came after the fly.
