) A well-written, affordable history of favorite hymns. The words and music of each hymn are accompanied by a scripture reference and a one page essay dealing with the author(if known)and the writing of this particular hymn. In addition to the table of contents and an introduction by the author, there are alphabetical listing by titles, author/songwriter, and first line of hymn. Excellent as a study book, reference, or source of program or worship inspiration. I suggest buying either volumes one and two separately or the combined volume, which contains all 250 hymns.

Interesting readingReading about the history behind the hymns adds a whole new depth to what we're singing. Our church still sings the old hymns--some going back to the 1700s & these songs are timeless. The reason behind them is thought-provoking. I really enjoyed it!

I was looking for the song book "Then Sing MY Soul" song book by Robert Morgan for a Christmas present for my elderly Aunt who plays piano and organ. I had seen the song book in a catalog on sale, however they were sold out. I decided to look for it on ebay. I was very happy with the price I pay for it on ebay. I loved the appears, content and condition of the song book and DVD. They were new and wrapped very well. It was just what I was looking for hymn of pass decades.

"Then Sings My Soul - Book 2"I knew when the 1st volume of "Then Sings My Soul" was published in 2003, it wouldn't be long until a 2nd volume would follow. I bought the set in 2004 and I love the books. The comtemporary Christian music is fine, but I still very much prefer the old time honored hymns I learned in church as a child.
This 2nd volume also profiles 150 hymns. I hope a 3rd volume will be published!! Ths set makes a wonderful gift.

Your soul will sing as you read this book!If you like old hymns, you'll love this book and its companion (there are two volumes). Old hymns stir up something deep in me that I really can't define. But it's there, and it's real. Robert Morgan has done a lot of research, and each hymn is presented with words, music, and background. It's the background that gives life to the book. Many hymns have come out of tragedy, struggles, and pain, and knowing a little bit about the hymnwriter's life gives a depth and poignancy to the words and music of the hymns they have written. This is a very readable (and "singable") book, and old, familiar hymns will take on a new dimension as you discover the spiritual atmosphere from which they were written. For me, this rich history helps define and explain the inner stirring that accompanies the singing of many of these hymns. Take a look. Have a sing. I think you'll really like what you find.
